Pulling Engine/Trans over the winter....Header Question??

After thinking it over while I was taking stuff off for the removal of the Engine/trans - the more I looked at and cringed about how close everything is, the more thought it wasn't possible......
Decided on just taking out the transmission. Had a good friend come over last night (Who is a full time mechanic, and young) And my son (Young and Strong) We had it out in 45 minutes.
Thank God for Youth!
Bringing it to ATD (Automatic Transmission Design) in Germantown WI today - about 45 minutes north.
They have a very good reputation with everyone I've spoken to about them and have a Torqueflite specialist - Charlie

Good for you Wally! Get that trans issue remedied and we'll look forward to seeing that Demon laying down some serious #'s in just a few short months. I know you'll do what it takes to make it happen and that 10-sec slip is well within your grasp.
Just had a friend teach me how to build a 727 today - first time for me. All these trans guys on here are right...the mechanicals of them really are pretty straightforward and simple. So long as you have a good selection of the various thickness spacers and washers to set endplays/clearances, they go together pretty easy. This friend had some interesting trans to compare against each other: a Coan built 20 years ago, a Turbo-Action built a year ago, and another Coan built within the last year. It was very interesting to see all the little variations each of them had. I'm sure each of the mods were done thinking this was how to build a better mousetrap.
I figure I better learn this stuff as I know my trans won't live forever, even behind my little 408!

I thought about trying it myself, but if the guy I've known for 40 years that builds 727's can't figure this one out, I thought I'd better take it to a professional.
I have an old 727 core in my shed, maybe someday I'll dig into it.
I'll keep everyone updated as this has me excited again. Hoping to dip into the 10's!!

You certainly will. No doubt there!
P.s. I hope you didn't infer that I thought I was a trans expert. That would be the farthest thing from the truth! But I think I could certainly do the routine things like clutchpack replacements, endplay settings, assembly, etc. Maybe one day I'll have to put it to the test - but hopefully not soon!!

Good Luck with your quest for the 10s ! I am the same way the guy that builds my 904s used to run a Stocker for Chrysler back in the early 70s and really knows his stuff and has been doing my transmissions for over 40 years. He does all kind of tricks inside and they must work as the 904 behind my 410 inch small block has been in the car 7 years now. He also built me a complete ready to go spare 904 in case I ever need it for the simple reason : he is getting up there in age being in his mid 80s. If you can swing it .. it might be good idea to have your other 727 gone thru also .. always good to have a ready to go spare especially in the middle of a race season.
