Morning everyone
My question today is how hard and how much engineering goes into swapping a 318 with a 5.0 coyote? I want the modern smooth running fuel injection plus a little more HP without a bunch of huge parts that i'd have to add to the 318. what are the major stumbling blocks that I will run into?
Thanks for any help.

Not exactly what I was asking about.
I’m surprised you got any answer at all, as what you’re asking is kind of offensive around here, particularly given your recent join-up date.

Maybe look at it this way: Do you take your eggs and bacon to the diner with you? Think the chef would be offended if you did?

Think you would actually get any service?

Maybe after you’ve got a history around here, and people get to know you, that type of question would be more tolerated. But right outta the box? That takes some cajones.

This a great site, and as a Ford guy I’m very pleased to see it as strong as it is. And I like to think I’m “tolerated” here, even because of my of fondness for the Blue Oval, because I’ve taken the time to get to know people here

You may want to try that.

First, welcome to the site. There is a new member forum where you can introduce yourself but we'll skip that. What you want to do is build a Frankenstein, meaning it's not a common swap and you'll be creating/fabricating a lot on your own. To name a few will be mounts, transmissions/mounts, exhaust, brackets and just about anything else you can think of.

I will give you credit for using the Coyote instead of a LS. :)
Best of luck with your endeavor.

Sounds like he would like to build a “safe” V8 car. Are you going to incorporate air bags too?
I ask my son in law about the 2 safe Mustangs he has all bark and no bite.

Thanks, I didn't realize that I would be opening up such a can of worms, I didn't actually think that I would try to do that swap I had always planned on a 340 but was just curious about the 5.0 because I had seen it mentioned on this forum before. I plan to be more careful with my choice of questions from now on.
my apologies I do love the forum.

It's all good, and remember it's your car, money and time so part of hot rodding is to do it your way how you want. This is a site built off of trust and people like new members to come through the front door (aka introduce themselves without giving personal info) and can be some resistant to somebody that starts off asking for knowledge on what many will see as blasphemy against Mopar with no introduction. Kind of like a stranger walking up in your garage and saying "give me your torque wrench, I need a pry bar" :D Wrong use of tool and who are you???? LOL

Have you done the measurements to see that it will fit? What will you be doing for a transmission ?

It is a great platform that can make tons of power. No ill will from me. My best friend has a 440 in his Ford Fairmont so what is good for the goose.......

I think it would be cheaper to build a 360 or a 408 stroker and put fuel injection on it. However, if that is what you want then go for it! I would love to see it.

Coyote is a good engine and common. But I still think of a "coyote" engine an engine that has a yote dog on the air cleaner. Copy cats!!! :D

Welcome. I was told, the only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask. Some major fab will be needed. If you want a modern type Power Plant, consider the cost 1st. How much for coyote eng? How much for hellcat? How much for stock type 5.7? Look at the 5.2/5.9 magnums. If you get something going and go on vacation in it or like to Moparty, where can you source a needed part, if you have a breakdown. Nothing wrong with your question. Just some on here are "purists." I am putting a 5.9 magnum with the factory fi in my 71 dart. There is a section here for installing a magnum. Follow your dreams, IT IS YOUR RIDE AND IT ONLY MATTERS TO YOU. GOOD LUCK. RBKT65.

I bet if the guys on "Iron R..." or whatever its called, could stuff a Coyote motor in a '65 Falcon, it would at least fit the engine bay!!
I say nothing wrong with some hotrodding.. it is a great hobby!

Sorry I thought I introduced myself on the new members site but maybe i didn't press send, I'm getting old and I do that a lot. When I was growing up my older brother was a chevy guy so I got all his broken hand me downs so I was kind of led into the chevy side, after I retired I realized I always liked the looks of many Mopar vehicles so I purchased my first Mopar a basically restored 71 Duster. Now I purchased a 72 Dart Swinger with a 318 and a three on the tree that needs lots of work, I want to do some modifications and this car is better suited then the Duster, thus here I am asking stupid questions. Thanks for letting me onto this forum I love pouring through it I am gaining a lot of knowledge from the site even though it may not show. I will try to be more enlightened before asking anymore silly questions and my sincere apologies to any I offended.
Thank you

Welcome aboard.

@Codybones you must understand (most) all us Mopar diehards tend to be somewhat anal retentive when swapping in another brands engine, and even when talking about Mopar cars out if the 40's! Just don't take any negatism to heart, in the end, we all love old cars! Thats my opinion anyway.

Certainly nothing is 'impossible', but it depends a great deal on your fabrication skills, as mentioned above. I am not aware of any kits or products available to simplify that particular swap, though I would not be surprised if someone had been there and done that already. If all you are looking for is a modern fuel injected powerplant, why not go with a 5.7 hemi? Lots of them around, and there is plenty of aftermarket parts and support for the swap.

Sorry but we are pretty hard nosed about keeping our Mopars all Mopar. ALong those same lines, bring up putting an LS in your Dart and you will get the same response.

Not to be rude, but that's a money-pit idea.
After the engine and trans are in and running and tuned, the rearend will need to go, new tires and wheels, upgraded suspension/steering/ and brakes. Then there's frame connectors, a 4-Link, and CalTracs. Then there is the hiway rpm, the hiway wind and body noises, and NVH (Noise/vibration/and harshness.)
Two years later, you got a 50Plus yo Dart-shaped Mustang, that nobody will ride-along with you in, cuz it rides like a truck..... and the worst of it is, you could have actually bought the Mustang for less, which will always have resale value, whereas the FrankenDarStang is yours forever..... lol
Jus saying.

That was the short answer. The long answer depends on what do you want for your Dart? What do you have now? AC, rear, stock suspension? I know what I'd do. If just a nice driver, I'd change the cam, Performer intake, Holley Street Demon carb, 4 speed tunnel, A-833 O/D, decent clutch, and a Hurst shifter. If I wanted more power, that would be a little different.

Thanks, that’s more along the lines of what I’ll probably be doing, I got an A body rebuilt 4-speed no O/D with a rebuilt hurst shifter so the tunnel and engine work and suspension are all in the plan.
Thank you

There are plenty of us running ford 8.8 rear ends, i dont see an issue putting a "decent" brand X engine in a dart

Just dont put a diesel in there, youll be fine
