Rare Cars that you didn't buy

We all have passed up buying a car and later found out that it was rare and had wished you had bought it.
Here is mine

A Charger 500, 19??, In 1974 it set in my neighbor's yard.

A new orange Superbird, In 1975 it was in the back of a Madsonville, Tn dealership unsold from 1970.

A 1969 Ford Talladega, I do not remember the year I passed this up.

1969 Judge Convertible, sitting in a scrap yard/ recycling center in Fortwalton Beach Fl in 99, watched the car for several years rott, finally was offered it at "Next to nothing if I was intrested" went back a week later and it was gone!

71 GTO,455,4 speed.Was offered this car while I owned a 69 GTO for $1000.It needed alot of frontend parts,also couldn,t afford it at the time.

1967 coronet hemi 4 speed project car. Almost complete. Had it traded for on saturday evening but i waited to go get it on Sunday. The guy slept and then backed out on the trade. He sold it on Ebay for $35000. I had about $3000 in my trade. I wont do that again.

The list is VERY long, but the major ones are: a mostly complete '66 Hemi satalite for $2,000 in 1992, a '68 Dart GT convertible in 1988 for $1,500 and a triple black '70 340 Swinger for $2000 in 1988.

I was sitting in traffic in London ( UK) in my 68 Barracuda RHD when a 68 RHD convertable oulled up alongside after a chat he asked me if I wanted to buy it ,I did not have the cash so said no, a few years later I found out they only imported 4 of these into the UK from 67 to 69 they did do them in South Africa but they were sold as Valiant's what a bummer !!!!!!!!:bootysha:

Yep, 1968 factory Super Stock Hemi Cuda. this was in 1980, asking price $2500.00. I had just got married, & had no money (still don't). My dad offered to loan me the money, but I refused, telling him that if I ever needed to borrow money, it would be something I needed. Sometimes its hard to stand up & do the right thing. Though, looking back, I should have borrowed the cash!

'69 Shelby GT500 for $2500. Rusty but complete. Right now that price might buy the steering wheel.

A mint Mercury Cyclone for $3000.

A '67 Torino GT 4 speed fastback. $1200

This all happened in the mid-eighties.

I'm not sure if it was rare or not,but I had a '68 Coronet convertible that was totalled while sitting at a body shop for some repairs. I only had $1100 in the car and the guys insurance offered Me $1750,so I took the money. I kick myself for that one! It was a 2 owner with only 77K on the clock.

My younger brother's '70 440+6 'Cuda in 1980 for $2,000. I was paying for my last year of college and didn't have much money to throw around. Damn!

Back in high school in 1973, when I was looking for my first car ('68 GTX), I passed up numerous Hemi cars on LI. They were generally about $500 to $1,000 more expensive than 440 cars back then and that was a lot of shekels.

71 Challenger R/T 340/Auto, Hemi Orange, white interior-$2,500-1992

My dad passed up a totally restored 71 Challenger Convertible 440 6Pack R/T, B5, white interior clone for $12,500 in 1997

71 Satellite, 383 2bbl 3spd Deep Sherwood Green w/white interior w/ 72 Satellite parts car-$500.00-2006

74 Challenger Rallye project 360/auto, Burnished Red Metallic/white interior-$2000.00-car was later scrapped because the guy could not get what he wanted out of it:angry7:-2006

68 Charger R/T 383 4spd triple black, complete car in a local junkyard. Went back 2 months later and it was completely stripped.1999

69 Dart GT 340/4spd Hemi Orange-$2,500

Hind Sight is always 20/20.

One consolation is that the original motor from the 74 Challenger ended up in my brother's 73 Challenger.

Sitting at a light in Anahiem i think, on Beach Blvd, 1991.

Looked over at a car dealership, a 73 340 Duster, Lemon Twist, black hood, sitting on one of those car stands.

Stopped to look at it, Automatic on the column, black interior. Odometer said 45,000.

They wanted $1500 for it. Stupid me.

'69 Dart 340, B5 blue with black vinyl top, B5 blue interior. Original and clean down to the wheel covers. Guy was asking $3K. This was maybe 7-8 years ago. Doh!

A running, stock, damn near rust free, sitting in a farm out in the Yakima, WA desert 1946 desoto suburban for $400. I'm still kicking myself in the *** over that one!

1976: 65 Malibu Convert 327/glide car, faded paint but still solid. 75 bucks. I was 16 at the time and my Mom wouldn't let me get a vert because my Dad was killed in one.

1982 I could've bought a 70 LS-6 454/M-22 Chevelle SS for 5 grand, didn't like the olive green color so I passed on it. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! That thing was a beast so I'd guess if I did buy it I wouldn't be here typing this today.

1983: 1970 Superbee 440/727 column shift car with 4:10 gears for a grand. I had my 71 Skylark sold for 800 and the guy backed out of the deal and I couldn't come up with the cash.

There`s only two that I can say "got away" because the others were just out of my price range at the time. Lol! In the mid `70`s a 67 GTX, hemi, 4 spd., black on black-$1500.00 and in the late 70`s a 69 Shelby Mustang KR500, 428CJ, A/T, orange and white- $3000.00. If I had only known then what I know now I would have bought every 70 and 71 Hemi powered E-body there was.

I got a buddy with a real one in his garage on the south side right now. It is completely torn apart and in boxes, just ready to be put back together. He bought the car 10-15 ago for 5 grand. Lucky bastard. :thebirdm::angry7:

back in the early 80s, a buddy had a sweet 63 riviera, 401 nailhead with 2 fours and super rare alloy rims just sitting. when he finally decided to sell i was short on cash (of course) so my "friend" snatched it for 150 bucks and flipped it for a tidy profit. i hate it when that happens

I Just Remebered Another One. 1971 Hemi Cuda, Buckets, Auto On The Column. The Engine Had A Spun Rod Bearing. $800.00, I Was 17 & My Dad Told Me I Didn't Need Anything That Needed Worked On. An Older Couple Owned It, Their Son Was A Deadbeat. They Ended Up Towing It To A Ford Dealer & Traded It In. Which Means They Got Nothing For It. This Was 1976.

What a coincidence. I have a buddy that has an extremely RARE '70 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet Duel quads 4/speed from the factory. I've seen the build sheet. They would let you order almost anything on those back then. Anyway, what I've passed up: First in '86 a '69 Buick GTS/skylark, whatever there kick a$$ big small block was, 4/speed. Mint, bad water pump leak. $400.00. Next up is:in '86 a '71 Mark Donahue Javelin. 401 4/speed. RARE!!!!!, $1,200. Next is in '86, '71 AMX 401 4/speed, $600.00. Next in '87, '71 'cuda 440 6 pack 4/speed. 2,300. next in '87 or '88, '70 barracuda 440 auto, $1,200. Next is in '88, '68 barracuda 340-S 4/speed. 8 3/4. 1,000. next is a '69 big block barracuda auto. Didn't know if it was original, never saw one before. Looked original. $600.00. All the rest of the car I've passed up have been recent. And not worth talking about. All the cars I never passed up equal 17 barracuda's, '65-'69.'66 Dart GT commando 273, 4/speed 8 3/4 car. '74 Duster 318, 4/speed. Never have owned a '64 barracuda. Never have seen one in my face. EVER. Matter of fact I never thought they existed as an actual full run year. I thought up until coming here that they were REALLY rare and they were '64 1/2's. Never have seen one in Washington. If I ever find one, I'll have to buy it just because I've never owned one yet.

There was a Demon Drag car for sale at this years spring fling. He only was asking 10,000 for it. I should of jumped on that one. I am going to be spending way more than that to build my Demon drag car, and it wont even be to the leavel this one was at. All's well. Back to the shop to cut and grind and hack and weld.
