Rear Crossmember/Spring Slider/Spring Relocater

-
Sorry guys I have been slacking. I've had a few things come up and haven't been in the shop much this week. I'll keep ya guys posted.

KK! Just kinda pushey because I want one if it works out well!

Yes it will be more than 3 inches. The springs will be mounted between the frame rails. I will be building new mounts to weld in for the front spring mounts. My dad is running a set up like this without the spring sliders on his 67' Dart. His is mini tubbed and he is running a 31x13 good year. Just a different way of doin things. My first thought was to weld mounts to the bottom side of the frame then bolt my sliders to that. Would have been quick and easy. I wouldn't have had to cut out my sheet metal in my trunk and move half my fuel system. I got to thinkin about it and decided I wanted to run the fattest tire possible with a mini tub. I also wanted to drop the car about an 1 1/2"-2" in the rear. The lower the rear is the easier the weight transfer. Plus I plan on running probably a 30" tire which is I think is an 1 1/2" larger than what I have on there now. With the way the car sits now a 2" drop will make it sit level. I have a lot goin on but I plan on posting pictures of everything. I suppose the thing to do would have been to do the build then post the pics and what not.

You know with the mini tubs, you only have about 14" give or take alittle. Unless you take off the fender lip. I run 13.50s under my Scamp and there is not much room. A Duster is not that much different.

Wait darn it, So IF I run your setup, I would need a different fuel tank and cut the floor up? If so Idk Im that interested anymore lol, I Liked the part about bolting it in so you wouldnt have to cut everything up een more now.

let me add this a scamp and a dart are diff. from a duster. how do i know i have both...the wheeels off my duster will not fit my dart..even if i mini tub the car.....unless the rear is not right..but a abody rear is the same right???????i put my 28/10.5 slicks on my dart from my duster wheels and all and the tire hit the out side lip..but on my duster i have about 2" to work with...so thats all diff. from what he is doing....you will need more inset of a wheel then what i have ..mike

well a b body is wider then a a body from the start...not kicking you but just thought i should point that out to you.....

now as far as what he is doing and what the abc kit did is ok and about the same as the mopar kit 3"... but you have just a few more (about 1.5/2") more room...i know i had the abc kit in my duster....what he is doing is with the slider kit and will add more hit to the car i think......

so with what he is doing and the abc kit would I be ok or at disadvantage because of the extra 3in total

well he will have to say on that ..but this is what i will say.. you or 3" wider then the abody from the start so you just need to fig. or get the best back space wheel for your deal...... that will fit with no problem.....

on the deal he is doing i had 29/10.5w tire on my car with 10" rims that was i think 5 on 5 i will have to check on my old papers....

now let mew say this again i have a 73 dart swinger and toojk the wheels off it and put on the dart and they dont fit.... so either the rear is not right or the car is narrow from the duster...( i think its narrow) the tire will hit the lip on the out side by about 2" so they will not fit....same rear ,same tire, same axles, will not fit...but what do i know?????hell i only tried what i have lol ....mike:sign3:

I got the pics thanks Mike. Crap!! I didnt even think about guys runnin stock sheet metal. Fst73 I put new sheet metal in my trunk. When I did that I put in flat sheetmetal and built my own fuel sump and moved the tank as far back as I could. That put the sump in the way of my setup. I suppose that would be a flaw a major flaw with this thing. I am going to have to find a car with the stock trunk metal in tact and take some measurements to see if this thing will go into a stock car. Fst73 are you running a stock fuel tank and or stock sheet metal? I feel like a dummy for not thinkin about that:banghead:.

both Stock tank and stock trunk setup, here to help! YOu also said if you had bolted them up under the frame rails it would be easier, maybe that would help for my situation or no?

Ok. This is gonna take some more research and a little more doin. Give me some time and I'll see what I can come up with. I don't have a car at hand that is still stock but I have tons of mopar buddies that have them. Its amazing the things a guy will overlook when he gets into a project like this. Duh not all cars are built like mine lol. I just need to get my hands on a stock car and check some things out. My front mounts will be similar to the ABC kit. Bolting under the rails will be a lot easier. You probably won't get as much drop in ride height. Let me see what I can come up with.

well i just looked at my dart from the back and you could fab up a brace that fits the side of the frame rail and not use the bar that goes from side to side and that will allow you to use the stock tank..just some thing i thought i would shoot out to you....good to see guys doing fab work and stuff for this old mopars...mike:D

also if you look at the mount that i sent the pic of.. you will see that it has a gusset on the top and bottom welded to it ...that will help out alot

I am back! My computer was down. Ok so from looking at a stock trunk my cross member obviously will not work. earthmover's plan seems like the way to do business, if you want the springs inside the frame. A couple good pieces of angle iron would do the trick I think. The simplest way I think would be to cut a piece of angle the length of the slider knock some holes for the slider to bolt it to on one side then weld it or bolt the other side to the frame. I have made zero progress on mine other than getting the brace tacked up in the car and cutting the plates to weld together for my front mounts. With a little hackin on the frame a guy could use the angle iron idea on the outside of the frame rails also. As for mounting on the bottom side of the frame rail, which is probably enough for most, it could be as simple as welding a plate to the underside of the frame to bolt the slider to. Front mount could be just like what is used in the mopar relocation kits.

Aside from my computer being down I've kinda had a lot on my plate. I don't wanna go into much detail but have had a few family issues. Dealing with the perils of unemployment also equals a lot of unenjoyment lol.

If any of my ideas were unclear or did not answer any questions let me know.
