Hi guys!

As you may know from another post I have going on, I was able to get my hands on a nice 340 motor which has been sitting for a little while (some years).

It does spin freely and I am in search of a good rebuild kit for it.

The motor is being built with a 6 pack set up on top.. i thought thatd be a valuable piece of info...

I'm not trying to set-up a race car, just something that gives a nice rumble and burns a little rubber if needed:)

The previous owner told me it was set up for track. It was placed on a dart which ran 11's.

It has dual spring valves, a low cam, j heads, and that's pretty much all i know. All this he told me. I am no motor techy guy, I do know the basics and have a mechanic thatll help me out building it... thats pretty much it.

Id love to hear the info and advice on a good/reputable rebuild kit for the 340.

I know everything varies on pistons, ring size, and and all (which i have no info of on mine) but like mentioned before, just looking for some good advice even if it means having to buy parts separately to make a good kit.

Some kits are listed for 68-71 and others 68-73. I know post 71's have different compression so that is why I have jumped here and attempting to avoid a disaster in buying the wrong parts.

Really appreciate it guys!!

Ooooo definetely liking this.. thanks krazykuda!!!

You can call them and ask if you can substitute items for a small charge. Like if you choose kit "c" and want higher compression pistons, or if you want a high volume vs standard oil pump, etc.... Ask them how much it will be to substitute those items in the kit with the ones that you prefer....

Start with a kit of your choice, then work from there...

That sounds awesome! This is why I come to FABO! The knowledge, experience, and advice from everyone here is fantastic!

Thanks again krazykuda!!

Im way too jealous!!

Quick question! What is the name of the piece thats behind the choke pull off? The one with the plastic and rotating arm that attaches to the butterfly of the center carb. It also attaches to the intake choke if im not wrong? My plastic has a large chip in it and im looking on replacing that entire piece. Ive done a lot of looking and googling but nothing but an actuator arm i believe?

Even then nothing shows up.

Ive attached a photo. Since i got it, ive ordered a new fuel line and new bolts all around for the intake to attach to the block. Some where a bit crooked others were just not good enough on my standards

Google Chicago carburetors. They have all the parts & photos. Ask for Al. He knows his stuff.

Will that 6 pack fit under your early A hood? You might want to do some checking

These pics should really get you motivated now. 6 Packs are not easy to find anymore. Your a lucky person.

ya 72 dart6packis a bit of a exhibitionist LOL. I will have some pics of my own soon enough :)

Do you guys recommend i go with an original air cleaner? Of course take the time to find the right one at the right price.

Or buy one from a reproduction company like Mopar Performance?

IF im not wrong, i remember seeing some from classic industries.

Helloo everyone!!

If anyone is still following this thread, im wondering if there are any good disc brake kits out there for the same 66 barracuda.

Ive done some research and ive read that if i do rears, bolt patterns change, wheel size change and a whole lot of other things change..

Im not looking forward to do that so im focusing on a FRONT disc brakes WITH power boosters and the whole nine yards.
If i do fronts, will the aftermath be the same as the rear? Change in tires? Bolts? Etc..?

Keep in mind im still building the 340 with the six pack.. I've seen a couple of photos with boosters and the six pack in early A's.. im just unsure of the size of the booster and all that.

Any recommendations, tips, help, pricing, suggestions are all beneficial, welcomed, and appreciated!!

Drum brakes are giving up on me so either i redo those or go for the next best thing..

Thanks guys, I always appreciate the help from here!

There's a guy on the forum here that rebuilds brake and suspension parts. I bought a few sets of reconditioned kelsey hayes 4 piston disc brake set-ups complete from him, just attach to upper and lower ball joints. If he still has any, it's reasonable to get them. With the Kelsey Hayes, you can keep it with the stock 4" bolt pattern. The KH discs were stock from 67-72 (I'm not sure about the early A's)

In 73 they switched to the 4.5" bolt pattern single caliper disc brakes. They are common with the B & E body front disc brakes. If you want to convert to 4 1/2" bolt pattern, then go with the single piston calipers. They will require going with the 73 and later upper control arm which will bolt in place of the early one.
