Rivetnuts

They can be great! A good tool and quality rivet is a must! I have used them very successfully!

We use em in aviation.

I have used them to mount heavy security mag locks on door frames and my Basement TV bracket in the coach. Thought about using on the Fish in a few places for convenience but opted out. They can be very handy!

Been using these for years. I found out about them from my dad who used them at the navy base where he worked.
Harbor freight sells a really light duty kit of them. Good for sheet metal but nothing really heavy duty.
Threaded Insert Riveter Kit, 45 Pc.

The ones I use in aviation are steel, and have a countersunk lip so they fit flush, also the grip has splines in it, so they bite in to grip so they dont loosen and turn. The end of the thread is slightly squeezed so it grips the screw going in so it doesnt loosen up.

I got one back in the eighties, used it all over an MG I raced back in the days. I loved that tool!

I have a bunch of mil-spec ones around here somewhere. If I can dig them up I will post some pics.

Ya so did Ford. Cracked out. Damned mirrors take a beating. A reinforcing plate is the ticket.

I have a few on my fish , and made a tool to use for them.
Did u notice the fairly tite hole he had drilled ? Imperative to fit tite , the titer the better.
He also was using ''aluminum'' nutserts , much easier than steel nutserts !
I even put my front engine bay strut bars in w/ them , but their tied in , in 4 places , instead of three as usually done .

Those are used on the doors to hold the side view mirrors on Mopar cars as well. Definitely on E bodies and I assume all the other ones.

Reminds me of what I saw on "Nick's Garage" yesterday. 1970 Barracuda and Challenger have slightly different door handles to follow the body lines (need to be careful when purchasing "E-Body" door handles).

They would be good for our voltage regulators on the firewall. No grounding problem with a nutsert.

Yes but I believe only one style is available reproduction. They will work on both but is only correct for one. If your doing a concours resto you have to replate originals or find NOS.

I use them all over on my Challenger race car with success. They work great for mounting non stock original things all over as needed.

We use these at work on the wheelchairs, use them to mount various components/ switchboxes/ modules/ etc. There are some different brands, I know that.

They also make them in stud form

There are some fancy ones out there, coated ones to prevent leaks and corrosion.
I have a kit, but havent used them lately.

Not that I know of. So far as I know it originated up here. The owner is aging and not very active at all anymore. I'm 71, part time, I just build electronics and electrical components. You can find some videos of some of our stuff

High Quality BOUNDER Power Wheelchairs

We recently pretty much stopped selling a 48V version, those damn things will do better than 15mph, they geared one that would do 21.
