Does anyone know what manufacturer made these rod bolts? I bought a stroker assembly recently that was supposed to come with ARP 8740 rod cap screws and the rods had these instead. I'm guessing P1 is the manufacturer, but I can't find anything on them. Is it worth complaining about?

Interestingly, they swapped out pistons too and included pistons from RaceTec instead of the Icon ones that were advertised...

Yeah, I came across that. I'm just wondering it they're good, compared to the 8740 ARP bolts the rods were supposed to come with?

I don't know, the rod bolts aren't listed in their catalog as far as I can see.
I wouldn't be questioning the bolts I'd be asking where are my ARP rod bolts and ICON pistons, that's what I ordered.

That's about where I'm at. Since the rotating assembly is balanced, I'm assuming I'll have to send back everything - all 94 lbs worth. The delivery guy's gonna love me. haha.

I’d scream bloody murder. Call the consumer protection agency in the state that where they are located.

Never trust a pro balanced assembly when purchased. My son does many engines and buys different stroker kits. We don't get many that are within tolerance. A ford f block pro balanced stroker kit over 140 grams out. 408 360 took heavy metal that is in the balancer now. Get the parts you purchased and have it balanced for your own piece of mind at a shop you trust that has a new digital balancer.

Here is a pro balanced molnar crank out of the box

Here is the same crank balanced after cutting weight from the crank. It can be drilled easy. But he cuts the counter weight to remove the weight from the diameter. Takes longer because you have to keep putting it in the lathe but look at the RPM difference it reaches due to being balanced better.

It's a Scat kit. I don't doubt that they make good bolts. I've just never heard of them and it's not what was advertised. Plus, I'd rather have the ARP rod bolts simply because they're pretty much the industry standard and I've only had great luck with them.

After looking more into it though, I seem to have a third issue with the assembly (so far). The balance sheet showed a rod weight that's about 40 grams off the actual weight of the rod, after weighing one. Not sure if that's significant or not, but it's something I need to look into more. I don't know enough about the internal balancing process. I may have them send me an unbalanced assembly and have a local shop balance it up for me instead. I'm not shooting for precision accuracy, but I just don't know what's an acceptable tolerance.

I've had good luck with them in the past, but I'm a little disappointed this time around. The kit should've had 20.5cc dished Icon pistons and came with 24.6cc dished RaceTec pistons, P1 rod bolts instead of ARP, and the balance accounted for rod weights that are 40g off the actual (and I only weighed one). Who knows what else is wrong that I don't even have the ability to check...

Not that it's an excuse, but I wonder how much of that was caused by black friday rush related issues. Is there any fine print that allows them to make replacements based on availability of parts?

The Racetech piston should be an upgrade.

So should the P1 rod bolts.

The P1 bolts are EXCELLENT, I have allready ran into this exact scenario, the rod manufacturers were slow to update the product description, but you have zero worries!

If the assembly they sent you fits your build parameters and gets you where you need to be with regards to compression, deck height, etc. then you should just have everything balanced and not look back. I agree with the guys above the rod bolts and the pistons are both an upgrade.

Unfortunately, the AutoTec pistons have too much dish volume, so it's going back. Good to hear the P1's are good bolts though. I've heard good things about AutoTec pistons too. They sure are pretty.

40 grams is significant for one rod! I’d send the whole mess back (their dime) and find another company that sells what they advertise.

So do u have Race Tech or Auto Tech pistons or are the the same? I agree though that 40 grams is way too much to be outta wack on 1 rod let alone on 8 rods. Maybe the pistons are 40 grams lighter than expected? But with the bigger dish you’re probably loosing at least 1/2 point in compression. Kim

The kit came with RaceTec's AutoTec line pistons. RaceTec has several lines of pistons apparently. The balance issue ended up being an error with the rod big end number. The number someone wrote on the box was incorrect and that incorrect number ended up being used to determine the bobweight.

For the pistons, it wasn't just the dish volume either. The compression height was shorter than the advertised Icon piston. I ended up sending the kit back for another one.

The new one came yesterday with the correct pistons. I opted this time for the unbalanced assembly and will get it balanced locally.
