Rubber tip on the brake rod

-
So under $20 to have the right part shipped directly to your door from an American run business that’s been supporting Mopars for decades, no effort needed on your behalf beyond a couple clicks. Nope, that’s crazy!

And we wonder why there aren’t more Mopar specific businesses making quality products for our hobby.

Sounds like some ppl think brake fluid is going to get into hole in master cylinder and deteriorate rubber ring???? If that the case you need to change the master cylinder. Duh. This isn't rocket science here folks.

Where are all the threads no rubber ring car wrecked ppl got killed? Anyone???

As far as excessive shipping, parts vendors have extreme crazy high over head for building, labor, taxes, loading unloading trucks, online store costs on and on and on. Yeah I wish they could lose money on shipping too....

.02 cents worth of silicone sealant in the bottom well of the piston will work, if you want to be on the cheap.

Large Priority Box went up $1.89 recently. You need ur shipped you gotta pay some. Sill cheaper than going to get in person.

Well lets see. That little piece could go in an envelope, they have a box of them, so each one costs $.05, a stamp costs what now days $.55 or so for delivery, the part is worth $.25, the USPS guy delivers them mail and pics up the outgoing envelope for nothing. Go figure!!?

Hey, if you're gonna buy rubbers buy them in bulk and hand them out to keep your neighbourhood safe!

I bought a bunch to cover the postage to the great White North, but the OP can buy them cheaper direct.... than postage would cost from me to give her one!

Come on, man. Sometimes it just feels wrong to pay through the *** for something so damned simple. The grommets probably cost less than a dollar each to make but somehow it is acceptable to pay 20 times that to buy one and have it mailed to you?
I retired from construction making over $60/hr plus all benefits so I know that nobody works for free. A reasonable person should be willing to pay a reasonable price. If an envelope and postage is $3 and the grommet itself retails for $3, why the extreme inflation of the price?
We have all seen instances where shipping rates have exploded but ....
As some know I'm making unobtanium parts for our cars. If I was to account for the CAD design time, Benefits, Electricity, Water, Nat Gas, Space Rent, My time to have the parts produced, my time to finish some of the parts, my time to process an order, my time to package the order, the cost of packaging, my time to get it to a shipper, the shipping costs, Insurance, LLC costs, Fed, State and local tax costs and fees, I would have to charge hundreds for a $2.00 part. If I was making and SELLING 100,000 of each part that would be a different thing, I would be able to sell the $2.00 part for $25.00 to $50.00.

I would love to do this for a living but it is financially not feasible!

It really does not matter the cost to produce the part, be it $0.50 or $50.00, or your perceived value of the part or how much the part retails for, the overhead and shipping are going to be a basically fixed cost per item sold.

Keep in mind none of us are getting any younger, the parts we buy will out live us.

On small parts that are inexpensive when posable buy them with other stuff even if I don't need them right now.

As to $10.00 shipping on a $2.00 part, sometimes its the cost of our hobby, can a home made part work perfectly fine, sure and I have done it several times.

And I am in no way pointing fingers at anyone or questioning their decisions
, I too have experienced the same thing, in fact I just spent 32.00 for a plastic water squirter for my minivan. I saw generic parts for $5.00 but opted for an OEM style part. It will fit better and look stock.

When the pedal is released, the pedal and pushrod are stopped by the brake lite switch, so for the rod to move back almost 3/4 of an inch to clear the master bore and fall out.
Somehow that'd require moving the brake lite switch, either removal or bend the **** outta it.
It's a captured piece of rubber tube with a relief in the side for compression, no heat, sun, fluid, solvent, to " disintegrate" it in that near perfect environmental conditions.
Can a nail safely be used as a cotter pin, it's harder, stronger than a cotter pin, but some would argue its dangerous cuz it's not a factory style cotter pin.
Can you add a 2¢ shim to a crush sleeve, and re-crush it to spec, or ship in a new crush sleeve., what about when there are no crush-sleeves avail ?
People think if it's not outta a catalog, it's not viable.
Hotrodding was all " not viable ".
It was said before, don't overthink it .

Shipping a 1/4" x 1/4" piece of rubber in a plane white envelope doesn't ship for $0.55, it is now an irregular shaped parcel and can not run through the USPS mail system and when the envelope gets torn open (and it will) and the part is lost you have a dissatisfied customer and your reputation gets harmed.

I have bought parts from members here who did not properly protect the parts. The parts got damaged, in one case it was NOS and one was Unobtanium. I do not do business with those sellers any longer, PERIOD!

Cass does sell them on his eBay listing for $10 and free shipping. Shows out of stock at the moment.

Call him, I bet he’ll work with you on your shipping.

Exactly. That was just the online shop, with NO STATE entered. It’s the lowest cost programmed into the website for a lower 50 box, regardless of size and weight.

Cass could likely get it to you for less if you called him.

Almost $14 to ship it?
Even their smallest flat rate box is $11.00 and you could fit 500 of those grommets in it.

LOL, someone is spoiled!

From my house it’s a 40 mile round trip to the local parts house. So, driving my Duster down to pick up a part myself frequently costs more in fuel than having a part shipped to my doorstep, and that doesn’t count the hour of my time I spend doing it.

Again, the flat shipping rate from the website didn’t have an address is state entered, it’s likely NOT what DoctorDiff would actually charge for shipping.

And yeah, I don’t see it as an unreasonable cost anyway. Has to be pulled off a shelf, put in a box, packed and taped, label printed, dropped off or picked up, shipped in a way that has tracking because otherwise someone will claim they didn’t get it and leave a shitty review, etc., etc.

Yeah, the part is a couple bucks, but you’re using time and infrastructure to order and ship that part, and that cost is more than that particular part. That’s why a lot of places have a minimum order, because there’s a cost involved with filling ANY order regardless of the part ordered. Not hard to figure out if you’ve ever run a small business.

yes, but... you still gotta pay somebody to pick it, box it up, print off the label and tape up the box.

brewer's absolutely murdered me on a speedo gear, but that's the price of admission. they have the website, they have the part, they have to pay to stock it, they have to pay for somebody to throw it in a box and send it my way.

it is what it is, and i'll gladly pay that extra few bucks knowing that i'm supporting a business that supports our hobby. i remember the dark ages of getting on the phone and tracking down parts and sending cash or checks via USPS and waiting weeks hoping the right stuff showed up. that extra $5 on the shipping is the tax i'll pay for having more parts than we've ever hoped right at our fingertips delivered quickly.

Exactly.

Well lets see. That little piece could go in an envelope, they have a box of them, so each one costs $.05, a stamp costs what now days $.55 or so for delivery, the part is worth $.25, the USPS guy delivers them mail and pics up the outgoing envelope for nothing. Go figure!!?

Nope. As pointed out that won’t work with basic envelope and stamp.

And as a business, there’s no way an order should be shipped untracked. It’s a liability for the business, some lousy customer will claim they didn’t get a part, there’s no way to prove it showed up if it’s not tracked, now you’ve got to ship another one and eat the costs and maybe a bad review. Not good business practice to protect yourself or provide good customer service in today’s day and age.

sure it can. and i'd have no qualms about doing so if you're broke down at the end of a dirt road in some third country **** hole.

but if i see that on a car it's a sign and it tells me that i need to be on the look out for other half *** hack-a-saurus wrecks work or boondoggle engineering. if you're not willing to use the right part for something as cheap and trivial as a FN cotter pin, where else did you cut a corner and how else have you played Cheapjack McGee.

one day it's a nail as a cotter pin, the next it's speaker wire to install an ECU upgrade. slippery slope my friends.

Just means I am going to wait and next time i have a bigger order with dr. diff i will throw one in. He does have some good stuff and I have ordered from him before, but it was before covid when shipping didn't give sticker shock.

I agree with the "do it right" crowd because we are few who even have these cars and how many hours have we spent un doing hacks from previous owners. I have had to replace whole dash frames and whole wiring harnesses because of previous owner hacks.

Hilarious, - you answered the question in your first three words.
You still run bias tires ? Lol
You go into a parts store with the old one, dude goes in the back, comes back with a little chunka hose from a multiparts box.
You ask him if it's the " proper" one or a universal one ?

GrandPa says, "we keep the tractor running with bailin wire and duct tape, but it works and ya do what ya gotta do boy"!
Pa would say, "yea grand pa, that was back when a MF35 cost ya $2300.
I would say, (If still alive), Pa, what ya think about these darn tractors and combines today that drive themselves and cost $500,000-$800,000!?"
And he would say, "and 60 years later, corn is still $4 a bu. what does that tell ya boy??"! :poke: :BangHead:

No, I tell the “parts store dude” he’s wasting my time because that’s not the part I asked for because I know the real part isn’t a chunk of hose.

But I wouldn’t show up with the old one anyway, I’d show up with the part number and I’d already know if his inventory showed it in stock because I’m not wasting my time to drive down there to throw myself at the mercy of some parts store dude.

And I sure as hell don’t run bias ply tires, but I don’t run factory suspension specs either.

Spoiled!
Yeah, that may be true. I am
Not urban but not quite rural. I’m 10-15 minutes from the major auto parts chains.
When the wife and I were thinking of moving to Arizona, we wanted acreage. There places up north and west with that but yeah, you’re 25-30 minutes from grocery stores , gas stations and auto parts stores. That would take a lot of adjustment for me. I’ve always been a suburban dweller… never a city dude or country boy.
