Slant 6 K-Frame = LOTS of Clearance

-
As soon as I get some time (probably near the Holidays) I'll swap on my new oil pan and see how it all fits!

So will the Schumacher mounts fit with the tti headers? I thought I saw that the TTi headers had to be used with the tti mounts? Also do the mount need to be modified it looks like some of them are.

So did everything end up fitting without issue? If the borgeson, power steering and AC all work with the /6 k frame it will be great news.

I am working with a 71 /6 K frame and 5.7, does anyone have a set of Schumacher mounts they would like to sell? and did the what oil filter type did you go with in the A body K frames with these setups? any pictures

So just to make sure I am following, you DID go with a /6 K member, not the original V8 K member?

Is it common knowledge you can not have OEM power steering, or AC if doing this swap?

I’m just starting to look into this, but I have a 74, V8 Dart Sport for this project. But my wish list is AC, power steering, power brakes. (In that order). Can I do this with my existing K member? Curious, what is a fair price for a new 5.7 Hemi?

@70Sbird, what drove you to buy the AC expansion kit? You needed a compressor, or you needed a DIFFERENT compressor?

That's AWESOME!
No complicated Oil filter fiascos and a WORKING A/C compressor on our A-Body Hemi swaps! This is a Big deal!

It would be great to see the clearance on both sides with the K-frame installed.

Well it's been over a year since I 've touched my 6.4 Demon project...I got sidetracked with another car rebuild that snowballed into a much larger project than intended, as they always seem to.
:lol:
However, I have been buying parts for the Demon swap and I thought I'd share another parts mockup. I've now purchased the Borgeson steering box, headers, and the Mopar ECU and install kit. I had to open the headers right when they got here since that was my greatest concern with fitment. These are TTI 61WPA designed for an A body with torsion bar suspension and the Borgeson box. I was thrilled to see that the header on the drivers side fits perfectly with my A/C compressor and Schumacher /6 to 3GHemi conversion mounts. With me spending a lot more time at home for a while I'll be digging out my K frame and mocking this whole thing up in the next few weeks, but so far it all looks like it's going to fit with just some tweaks!
:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

@Ronald C.
I bought the Mopar Crate engine, so there was no compressor there to begin with. I did purchase a core compressor off of and older 5.7 but the mounting holes changed at some point so it wouldn't fit my 6.4. I then bought the Mopar A/C kit for my crate engine any the new compressor design (2017 Challenger) fit perfectly

Where you located @70Sbird ? if you have spare /6 K laying about lemme know. I have a couple v8 K's
I'm in Central Illinois, near Peoria. The only slant six K frame I had was the one that came out of my 71 Demon....I also have a couple of V8 K frames that I bought for this swap, both pad and spool mount that are now just taking space up in my basement!

Hi everyone, thought I'd post an update...(it's only been a year or so...) I finally pieced all of my components together on the slant six K frame and thought I'd share. For a refresher this is a Mopar crate 6.4 (2017 SRT LX body car configuration) and a slant six K frame from my 71 demon. In my post from last April above you can see the Schumacher mounts, the A/C compressor and the header all bolted to the engine. However.....when I actually tried to put it all together the Compressor and engine mount wanted to occupy the same space. Once I mocked it up a few times I found the opportunity of just under a 1/2" of room to move the engine forward in the K frame before the steering box hit one of the header tubes so I re-drilled the engine side of the mounting plates and moved everything forward by about 3/8". That doesn't sound like much but it helped with the A/C Compressor to motor mount relationship, it gave me more room between the SRV on the back of the intake and the firewall that I'll have to be adjusting, and less of my T-bar crossmember that I'll have to remove to fit in the transmission (Silver Sport A41 package - 4L60E). The first pic is of the redrilled motor mount plates, next is the hacksaw modification to the compressor, the K-frame butchery to clear the low mount compressor and then finally the mount, compressor and K frame all living together and sharing space.

Ok, one pic didn't go, here are the pics of the K frame "clearancing", and everything bolted in place including the Borgeson steering box

Ok, now for the other side and the actual difference of the slant six K frame. There is some decent room under the area of the block where the oil filter goes with this combo of mounts and K-frame. I don't think that there is enough room to mount the regular sized filter directly to the block and be able to change it. There may be room for a 90 degree or 45 degree adapter but it will be very close either way. I'd like to find an example of one or both adapters and try it before ordering one only to find out that it doesn't fit. BTW, the Schumacher mounts have now been picked up and are being manufactured/sold through USCartool.

Man Will this work with the early A slant 6 frame? :eek:
I cant say much about fitting the 3G into the Early A bodies, but I had a 340 in my 63 Valiant and I know that it was narrower than the later A bodies. Here is a pic of the engine in my Demon on one of my mock ups. It's tighter than I thought it would be on the passenger side for sure. The drivers side looks great, but the column isn't in there yet either.

I was told today this not possible. And in my mind if you think outside the box almost anything is possible. I post a AC on Facebook today. And. Group member found your post and I'm glad he did. I to is putting a 6.4 in a 72 Demon that have a /6K-frame.

I spoke with Bouchillon Performance and at their recommendation bought the QA1 Tubular K-Member for clearance. I'm strongly considering ordering the Holley mid-mount accessory kit as part of our fitment tests. The shop I'm working with has a few other A-bodies in pipeline to do Gen 3 swaps. Any additional info that I glean as part of this effort will be shared!

I talk to Randy too. He told me the same thing, which I'm not doing. To go that route could be close to $5000 on top of your build. With some thinking outside the box. It can be done.

GoldSwinger, If that Holley mid mount front accessory drive with the Alternator, P/S pump and A/C compressor setup would have been available a year earlier I would have bought it and saved myself a bunch of pain!

@70Sbird What Radiator setup is that? I'm on the hunt for one now and don't want to run a stock plastic rad for a late model car.
I used a Northern Radiator # 205199 and their fan/shroud assembly #Z40112. I'm happy with the fit and appearance, it seems like a well built unit. I bought it from Yogi's and the whole assembly was was around $625.
Northern Radiator | Muscle Car Radiators (Downflow) - 21 3/4 x 21 3/4 x 3 1/8
Northern Radiator | Dual 10\x22 Electric Fan & Shroud - 16 1/2 x 20 1/2 x 1 7/8
