Soĺ Cal fires

You aren't stopping that fire in the wind storm no matter the FD budget. The FD budget is 900 Million....

When fire can jump 10 lane freeways you think a Cat D9 fire break cut in the hillside makes a difference? Embers blowing 1/4-1/2 mile down wind. Good luck.

Sucks but the situation as it came about is totally indefensible from a fire service perspective. Everybody looks for someone to blame. Nature is a ***** sometimes.

We have enough equipment to defend a large structure from fire given defensible space. A D4 and 4 tree fallers make quick work of things.

I'm not a professional fire fighter; I'm a concerned fellow willing to burn some vacation to help out.

Please look at historical fires in California with major loss. For example the Paradise or Erskine fires. Major loss of property and a few D 4's and a few chainsaws are no help.

Retired from International Union Operating Engineers Local 12.
D 10'S, 11's would be no help.
LA City and or County using Dozers merely to push abandoned vehicles out of the damn way.

Get a grip with the reality of the magnitude of a heavily populated area and the circumstances thereof.

It gets into the housing areas and the flames don't have to hit the house next door. The heat from the fire of one structure is high enough to cause any exposed wood next door to combust. Doesn't help when embers get into those areas or attics. Horrible deal.

You have stucco homes with tile roofs going up in flames with no regard for the materials used in construction. As though they had an accelerant on them. Poof!

Another deal. NOBODY in those neighborhoods wants to live in an area landscaped comparable to the surface of the moon! Put in all sort of oily trees and bushes that are fuses when this stuff gets going.

On a lighter note, was watching CNN or whatever when the Chit hit the fan. I couldn't get my phone out quick enough to snap a pic of TV screen.
Watched a few minutes saying WTF to the live in.

3 Firefighters doing nothing with the 4th one with a garden hose hoping to keep the spread moving to garage ? It was obvious that the house was gone. But window frames were being sprinkled etc..

Ugh !

Defensible space. Hard to fathom.

Yep!! Just like the wind-driven fires that hit the wine country 7-8 yrs ago. There ain't **** a city fire dept is gonna do to stop it.

The water situation and lack thereof. A lot of the places in the palisades fire had sprinkler systems. Those lines get compromised and you have a straight leak that is pretty generous.. Get enough of those leakers in the area, no pressure and volume.

The reservoir was planned to be offline for repairs, long before this event.

Not to mention Air Support not being able to fly.

There's no Reservoirs any where close to providing enough water for the fiasco that unfolded.

I'm fortunate to have Lake Isabella as a source for helicopters and bordering Sequoia National Forest brings all Aerial support being retardant or water to help keep the further spread of destruction to forests or developed/structures.

Regardless it is obviously never an outcome that is preventable to an extent.

Confirmed arson in LA with blow torch homeless setting fires. This is unreal folks. We are under attack. They arrested him.

Homeless man seen lighting fires who was zip-tied by LA residents not yet charged with arson: police

That was around the Kenneth fire. That’s 25 plus miles from Palisades fire and 60 plus miles from Eaton Fire.

These homeless people are so screwed in the head you don’t know if this particular person actually started or just joining in.

I wonder if they are going to ban certain types of high combustible trees from high fire areas.

At Palisades they were scooping out of the ocean. Was cool to watch on TV as they were doing it. Unfortunate to be at this event and not an exhibition.

The wind the first day or two was bad. The Air units were grounded probably around sundown.
