Some Math for You.

how's this? the angle of the dangle + the heat of the meat = the torque of the dork? Can I say that?

Didn't GM build 4 different 350 motors?

I think they all had different bores and strokes, but equalled 350 cubic inches.

Chevy, Oldsmobile, Buick, and Pontiac. Caddy used one of those for their cars. Any one else recall this?

I do remember that the Olds, Pontiac, Buick and Chevy lines all had different 350's, but I'm not sure about the bore and stroke; thay may well have been all different. I do know that they shared no interchangeable parts, except for perhaps the internals of the distributors... and, I'm not even sure about that. None of those four 350's looked anything alike... all, different engine families. And yes, the small, Nova-based, Caddy used a fuel injected version of a 360 Olds, while the Oldsmobile still had a carburetor.

I think one way to determine displacement from engine specs is this:

Bore divided by 2, times itself, times 3.1416, times stroke, times the number of cylinders will give you the displacement.

Or, cylinder radius, squared, times pi (3.1416) times stroke, times the number of cylinders = displacement.

Found it. According to my 1972 - 1979 Chiltons auto Repair Manual:

Bore x Stroke
Buick 350 3.8 3.85

Chevy 350 4.0 3.48

Pontiac 350 3.8762 3.75

Olds 350 4.057 3.385

Guess they couldn't make up their mind

Pontiac 400's and Chevy 400's were also dimensionally different.

Holy crap!!

its the mythical magical B.C.P.O. SPEED FORMULA!!

1 over square / 3 under square = 3 into 1 = .33333333333 %
of the time it takes the 84'th reinvention of the bowtie to
shore up corvette sales & try and rule the world.

Just in keeping with the twisted math theme Kiddies

Edit.. (this the general thread)

Pastortom1... all those Fenders are yours???

Take the number 3399, multiply 33 and 99, take that number and add 33 and 99 to it=3399. Works....I dont know why for any number with a 9 in it.
33x99=3267+33+99=3399 weird.
So cid = volume times the # of cyl's?

They are inferior engines in a lot of ways...

Small Block Mopars (SBM)'s have SO many advantages over Small Block Chevys (SBC)'s.

1. Taller block

2. Wider bore spacing (4.44 vs. 4.40)

3. Higher camshaft location (more room for bigger strokers)

4. Larger-diameter lifter bores (better valve action from the same profile)

5. No fonky-*** pushrod in the fuel pump

6. Intake comes off without removing the distributor

7. Stronger rods

8. Longer rods (by a bunch!)

9. Valves centered in bore

10. Eighteen-degree valves STOCK (SBC's had to pay aftermarket extra)

11. Phenolic resin float bowls (T-Quad) for cooler fuel

12. First with electronic ignition (1972)

13. Shaft-mounted rockers 'til '93 (non-Magnum)

14. Impossible to install the SBM's distributor "one tooth off."

15. Everybody and his DOG, doesn't own one...8)

Cheaper to build, will fit anywhere, and could keep the "target" crate engine program going, hence the reason the bean counters and the corporate suits gave up on other superior GM 350s and made the Chevy version the corporate engine. And keep the licensing going for the aftermarket to continue R&D for things like better heads. Yup, Bill, you got the math on that one right!

Do I have a high 12 second car if I have run 13.002 with a missed shift?Guzzi Mark
