All the links here on FABO that lead to the stories like the D-Darts or other rare cars. Just carelessly crushed or tossed aside with disregard. Just hear me out, think about how many older dodge cars are/were crushed and how many are hauled off for scrap. It just makes me sad to think A-bodies used to be numerous. I can understand if a car is rotted out beyond all repair and there is almost no way it can come back unless you put an insane amount of man hours and money into it then yeah, you should save what you can off of it and then scrap whats unsaveable. Like if you had a 1971 hemi cuda that is so rusted, you could put your fist all they way through the door and open it from the inside, thats pretty much what I am talking about. I dont understand how some idiot can drive his 1968 plymouth sport fury to the nearest scrapper and say "oh well, its 42 years old, its worthless now" and sell it for 200$ to the scrapper who then crushes it.
I guess I will just never understand people who dont understand cars. Love it, Drive it, Maintain it. Whats so hard about that? My sisters roommate had a '98 Firechicken and he didnt change the oil for 20k miles and expected it to just maintain itself pretty much. When it slung a rod through the block, I told him he was an idiot and he shoulda changed his oil. "What the @#$* do you know about cars?! It was just a POS hehoah":angry7: This guy acts all hard cuz he is in the navy but ever since he got out of training, he hasnt been going to any of the meetings, he is completely AWOL. Well, since he is the genius money schemer he is and knows how to work the economy like nobody bees wax, he takes the car to the local scrap yard and makes I think about 150$. WOW. What a whopping payout! Sorry to rant:munky2:Just in a terrible mood, my dad called me this morning to tell me he wants to scrap his Ford van, I ended up arguing with him for abit, just telling him to sell it to one of the pull your part yards so someone else can make good use of all the stuff it has. I ended up convincing him not to scrap it before he calls the part pull yard nearby, but somehow I angered my stepmother with this action. :angry7:

Eh, stuff happens. Life happens. Rant over

I here you it sucks but what you going to do about it? Just like the guy on here that picked up a few 340 cars that were in nice shape and then relised he did not have the skill to restore them so he was just going to scrap them to get his money back. Some people are ball lickers thats all there is to it.

It is a shame to see these vehicles just get crushed. I think about all the hours of labor that was put into making and producing these automobiles, from the steel mills to the showroom, The people who took pride in the manufacturing processes and also the "Made In the U.S.A." label. What does this all mean today? Not much. Consider that what Detroit was when these vehicles were being produced and what has Detroit become today,- Shuttered Factories and skyrocketing unemployment. I guess that this is what they call "Progress" I for one think it's a damn shame that this country has gone to hell in a hand basket as for manufacturing and what it once stood for. It really pains me to think of all of the people who are out of work and struggling just to put food on their tables. When will it ever end? I do agree that people who just turn their backs on what I consider a piece of Americana for a couple bucks for scrap is downright wrong. Oh well rant over..........

I know a guy who scrapped a perfectly good '88 grand marquis for like $170, when all it needed was a fuel pump. We also have a mutual friend who needed the transmission. Bothers me so much. He should've just sold it to someone who would've kept it going.

I imagine a lotta cars get crushed out of heat of the moment frustration, or I`ll teach that POS and crush it! For instance---- I got a call from my Mom the other day telling me that dear old Dad done wrecked his truck and was going to tell the rollback guy to just haul it to the yard. After I found out he was ok I asked her how bad was it? I convinced her to tell him to just have it dropped off @ their property. Went up to look at it, the L front tire/spindle/shaft,etc. was ripped off,"4wd" fender wrinkled, and just caught the door front edge and rolled it back a little. The front grill etc. untouched. Should it been scrapped? Although the engine was tired it still ran and they depended on it if ever bad snow etc. "they live on the mountain". He bought this truck new in 90, GMC chatanooga custom, very sharp truck and body is in great shape considering. Hell he could probably sell the wheels for what the yard would of given him. moral/ cooler minds prevail8) I guess I hated to see it go, truck in background

We live in a country (world?) with a "disposable" mentality. It's just easier to replace than maintain. My grandparents were raised in the depression, they never threw anything away. My Dad is the same way, and so am I. My wife recently convinced me to have some of my old "junk" hauled off. I kept the "good" stuff, Scouts, Darts and a couple of logging trucks, but ended up sending 12 vehicles to the crusher (2 were school busses). I took off everything that wasn't rust-fused to the carcass and still got $2000 and a lot of space for more diamonds in the rough. I didn't like tossing them out, but it was out of hand.

It's crazy how some people think, when I worked at a scrap yard people would drive perfectly good cars on the scales and sell them for scrap.. I always tryed to save any of the old good stuff, most days I'd torch off parts during my lunch break...
