Stop in for a cup of coffee

OMG, called autozone earlier.....

Me: do you guys still have the ECU tester for the old 5 pin mopar ECU boxes?

Eva autozone team member: is it smashed?

Me: (thinking, why the F%&* would it be smashed)
No, it's not smashed.

Eva: can you drive the vehicle here so I can plug in to it.

Me: the ECU box is already off the car, there used to be a little console tester there that said "wells" and it would test these old, from the 70s ecu boxes.

Eva: you might plug it back in so we can connect the tester under the dash.

Me: this is an old car, there is no plug under the dash, you test these older ECU boxes on the bench.

Eva: has it ever been chipped.

Me: omg, it's from the 70s, all of that is irrelevant to this. Do you have a little console tester there that says wells and has a little drawer full of different connectors, I know it was there as of 5 years ago.

Eva: what's the year, make and model. ???

Me: it doesn't matter these ECU boxes were standard for years, either you have the tester or not.

Eva: I need to ask the manager

Me: that is not necessary, look around you, do you see a little console tester that says wells on it???

Eva: so what part is it, we do sell wells brand parts.

Me: ****disconnect the call****

Why do they hire morons at autozone ??
Go down there and find out where it went. Maybe its not gone in the dumpster (yet).
Otherwise mail to Hoppy with a SASE.

Can the tail lights on a '65 Dart be repaired, thinking about the chrome part. What kind of material is it ?

Bill

Good morning everybody, and everyone else who feel left out from the everybody. :D

Anyway, my question about the tail lights. I guess it was a minimal explanation. What I meant was, miy tail light bezels are pitted. I have seen worse, but I can not believe they would look good after re chroming. So, my question was, can the pittiing be repaired. I remember reading about it, maybe like 20 plus years ago and I think it said someone drilled in the pit hole, and filled metal in it. But this metal, can it be repaired at all filling metal in. Can it be soldered for example ?

Bill

It's everywhere.
Someone with a big name MBA got an idea they could improve 'customer experience' by computorizing and giving a script to the "customer service representitiive". Then hire without discrimination to skills or knowledge about the subject.
I was a Parts store owner (3) stores, for 20 years. Back in the 80's my countermen were making 40k a year, with medical Bennie's. They could tell a customer over the phone, the engine bearing clearances on just about any engine....The greed of the manufacturers is what spoiled all the good service from parts stores.....I could go on for hours on this subject......

Wont hook up to points. Need a electronic distributor.

First!
Well, I read it can. But, there are supposed to be more.than one type of them, and some has 5 pins in the connector, and some has only 4. From what I understood it was the 5 pin one that worked with points. When I get to my computer I will look up that place and post the link here.

Bill

Good Morning All! Running up to Ferndale to look at counter top slabs with wife today, wish me luck lol! She's very sweet but all these decisions are stressing on her a bit.

Good morning! Back at the grind on this Monday morning for me. Where the hell did the weekend go? Working on my first pot of coffee to get this day going. Have a great week!

That's a new one on me Bill. I have no idea how that will work. Pretty sure the five pin is early electronic 711/2 72?

Pitted pot metal can be repaired and rechromed. I bet your 4 taillights would cost $2000 or more to do.

Good Morning folks, hey Ray @halifaxhops is the 71 hardware the same? This is still on the car and I can check the scrap pile tonight after work for the rest if it is.

I think the factory stayed with 5 pin setup 'till '75 or later.
Key thing is there's no way to get a good magnetic pulse from points.

bILL REALLY INTERESTED IN SEEIN THEAT. tHE ECU IS JUST A SIGNAL AMPLIFIER BASICALLY. when THE RELUCTOR PASSES THE PICK UP A SMALL AC SIGNAL IS GENERATED THE ECU AMPLIFIES IT AND SENDS IT TO THE COIL.

Have to go to greyhound and pick up my rockers then meet with a member and get a box of cores from him and buy him lunch at least.
