Stop in for a cup of coffee

And it sort of upsets me that those who had my Dart before put a square back alternator in it, that is sort of not right.
If the car was just being used as a driver, it might have been what got handed to them at the parts store.

I just do not like Face Book. Massive time sink....IMO.
its the 'sharing' and 'targetted' selling that's kept me from signing up.
Bad enough using google, but that's what the organization was using, so I had to as well.
Some of what it does it does pretty well. But its the way it shares and uses up bandwith to 'improve my experience' that is really an issue for me.

Well, it was the guy at the dealer who sold the car that said, "we have put a new alternator in it". But, I realize that is what have happened, they have not had a clue. Same guy told me how nice the engine was running, with like 0.040 - 0.065 in valve clearance.
Well, I will look to see if I can find a repairable round back core from late 1964 at some point. I need to go to that scrap yard for other stuff anyway.

I have a lot of friends from Norway on FB so it was a way to stay in touch with them. It has some features that is good. But I hate the way they share information, and this Alexa and whatever, being able to turn on microphones on tv's, that pi***s me off to no end. I can't even see straight.

That was my next question. LOL.
I have two or three roundbacks but nothing that early.
Most rebuilders, even local ones , often sandblast the castings resulting in a rough surface and damaging the dates. :(

I'll throw some photos up

I can get remanufactured round backs everywhere. But, to be totally honest, and honesty last the longest I learned as a kid, I think I would rather have an old and even dirty one that I can take apart myself and overhaul and put in my car. That would really please me.

Yes. I understand. The Philly Region SCCA uses FB almost exclusively. Its usually open so anyone can see it, but it still annoying. Maybe this winter I'll figure how to join and still protect myself (and my sanity). LOL
As far as 'smart speakers' etc - there's guy who writes about this stuff that the Wash Post publishes. He even paid someone to hack the system to discover what coversations were triggered abd saved by the speaker.

That one is pretty hard to do and make right with the seams coming down the sail panel. I can do it, but I dare say not many can. You gotta really have a depth of experience to get that one right.

Bring it to me and I will do it right.

The back half should have the p/n and assembly date stamped here.

IIRC There's usually one digit difference between the assembly with the pulley and without. You can look in Hammtracmk Historical Library for a service bulletin about this.

Casting date for the back will be on the 'ear'. This one was sandblasted.

Might be the same location oin the front halfs.

Wow. That's disappointing.
Well maybe not wow.
Sometimes there's more than one way to get a good result, but there's always alot more ways to get mediocre results.
When it comes to a vinyl top, there is only one way to get it right. Doing it any other way results in crappy results.

I learned how to do it from 30 year installations professionals at the Chrysler plant in Newark Delaware. They knew how to do it and were trained in the concepts as well as the specific details for the top they were installing.

I did thousands across all makes and models. Once you understand the concepts, you can just look at any make and model top and know how to do it right.

The problem with the Modern installers on vintage cars is that they don’t know the concepts and falsely decide they know how to do it...and screw up.

I watched the Legendary installation video and 30 seconds into it I saw what they did wrong at the beginning that compounded into multiple mistakes later. Their first premise of how to do it was wrong so naturally they failed even further during the rest of the process.

Sadly this is a problem in a lot of trade skills.
Its why I equivacated on my 'wow' reaction. disappointed a big name shop would do a video like that but actually not surprised for the very reason you state. I beleive its really imprtant to understand the concepts and principles. to have a real chance at any craft or skill.

Here is the first example of what they did wrong in the Legendary video, and then I will post 2 more.

They failed to pull the sail panel properly resulting in a wrinkled mess that they had to try to iron it out later. They glossed over it in the video but it was a major screw up.

Example 2 for Legendary. They screwed up the side pull and were left with a bunch of wrinkles that shouldn’t have happened. It all started with how they pulled the seam and then were left with an incorrectable situation.

Then there was this guy who made the same mistake on the A pillar as Legendary did. He laid it down from the top rather than stretching it down from the bottom leaving a wrinkled mess that never should have happened.

Here's a couple originals being discussed.

Very interesting.
I was forced to install my own headliner, and I think there's still a little bit of wave because I was just doing the best I could.
(Forced as in the guy never shpowed up and we needed to put the glass back in)

Well, it is not much point of looking for the date on the one I have as it will be too new anyway since it is a square back. Then it is hidden too since the part no and date code is towards the inner fender and impossible to read.

I have to laugh, while I was watching the vinyl top install videos I was yelling at the screen saying “You are a bunch of idiots! You screwed up at your first move, and you are just making it worse!”

My wife came in to see what I was yelling at. I showed her and all she had to say was “The fools just don’t know what they don’t know...and deserve what they get. Maybe they should pay you to show them how it’s supposed to be done.”

Maybe... but I doubt they will ever listen.

It maybe someone else could benefit from your knowledge. I mean if I ever do some reason should end up with a 1965 Dodge Dart hardtop and need a new vinyl top on it.

Oh man the language on this phone is messed up.

You should do a you tube video. Once it catches on you make money. Joey's websites are a great place to start marketing.

That’s why I will help friends on their cars...but have little interest in teaching the rest of the industry how it’s done. They are all convinced they know how, even though they are wrong.
