Stop in for a cup of coffee

Don’t expect that bad here. I think our gusts might be 50 or so...My wife thought I was nuts putting a new flag out. I think it should be Ok. Just got it to replace one I got from Dad that tore. Decided to retire it after Veterans Day.

Had to run back out when I looked at that pic... Soldier on other side of the garage door blew down. Lol

We had a little wind here but nothing like that. Several power outages/trees across highways etc.
Yeah. They were only calling for 50-60. It was like being in a 12 hour tornado yesterday

My grandfather has one that he refuses to fly. He was in politics at the state and local level, and happened to get a flag that was flying over the US capital the day Apollo 8 lifted off to head to the moon. Even has a signed letter to go with it. It sits in the safe.

My mom has one as well from the Capital but it’s not from a special day.

The neighbor's 100 year old red oak is always last to drop leaves. They were still hanging on yesterday with all the wind. We often do yard work this weekend as well. That oak tree has developed a large crack in the crotch. Not looking good. There will be a lot of firewood when that one comes down.
Other than a few stragglers, I only see leaves on one tree here. A big maple on neighbors side of property line. But its on the side they usually blow towards.

Oh... and the crotch is where you will normally find a crack.

I’ve heard you can get those. Not sure if there is a charge. I guess a lot of gubermint buildings fly them one day. Those must be pretty big though. The one I have here is only 3x5. I do have a big one I had across the garage door after 9/11. Not sure what size. I think 10 ft. Thats what I flew at the cold storage.

I’m not sure how they got them. They’re not terribly big. Maybe 7x9ish

Justlooked it up. Found one site that says a few sizes up to 5x8 and mention 'mailing in check or money order'. Another said they do like 100,000 per year! and up to 12 footers...
So,
basically it's turned into a business for them. :BangHead: I did just find pricing for my state. Can buy a 3x5 for like $12. But to have it flown over capital is an extra $9. I paid $20 for the one I just got but saw some for half that price. I would hope they are not doing crappy printed ones and at least have embroidered stars. So probably about same price total. I guess they have people running flags up and down all day long. Or maybe they just unfold them and hold them out over a balcony for a second. LOL

Happy Thanksgiving. Had 17 inches of snow on Tuesday, had 30-40 mph winds yesterday and overnight. I get to go dig us out again.

Yeah I don’t know. I know Moms is a high quality, embroidered flag. I’ve seen it out recently. The other one, I’m not sure but given the era it’s from, I’d say it’s embroidered as well

How cold does it get where you’re at?
Coldest days are -40. Farenheit celcius are about the same at that temp.
We usually get a couple weeks in the -30’s.
Should have replied too damn cold...those real cold days i pretty much refuse to open shop door...

You know I just had an idea. It’d be a bit expensive but I wonder if I buy a bunch of US flags, see if I can get a FABO member in each of the 50 states that has a flag pole to fly it for a day, then send it back. Create a flag collection from all 50 states!

Well, if you wanted to do that... You might save some by buying 50 at once, but would likely eat that up in postage. Probably do better to contact a state rep office in every state and order them. Unless you prefer 'flown at a FABO house' over 'flown at state capitals"

Yeah. Then the question becomes, how do I display them. And yeah, I think I’d rather them fly over a FABO members place than that of lying and corrupt officials

If you do 3x5s they are about a foot across the long side when folded. Maybe a cool garage wall of blue with stars. Spell out FABO with them? and one open above...

There’s a guy with an empty case willing to sell it for $75 plus shipping so there’s no need to sell it if you weren’t planning to.

Ok sounds good. i wanted to swap in the 3.91 gear set and a sure grip diff (or something similar). So I had 2 centers available.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Hope all is well and everyone has a great day!!

That would be cool. I may start that out after Christmas. Figure do one or two a month won’t be terrible
