Stop in for a cup of coffee

We had to use Verizon network as it was the only one with anything like a signal. But we used a 3rd party provider and avoided a lot of nonsense.
For home service, they were total a_holes. Refused to put anything in writing other than threaten to cut phone service if I didn't accept their FiOS deal. FiOS for a phone line. :realcrazy: But wait, there's more. It will be just like copper except cost more and go out when the power goes out. What a deal. And when there's a problem the only way to contact them is to call - listen to a menu - then wait forever - then try to talk to someone who is reading from a script.
Done with that. :)
And I agree. When 5G or whatever the next thing will be, that's going to change the playing field yet again. Hopefully there will continue to be enough companies in each market to keep things competitive.

That sucks...

Out here on the south side of Chicago, they have good coverage...

They released one of our old governors from jail yesterday...

I bet it felt great for him to see and hug his family after all these years without them...

I might not have been clear. Cell service was needed for work in NW NJ. Well maybe not needed, but these days organizations and people generally expect to at least have some access...
We had copper land line in camp with a small local company. But not good enough for DSL.

The phone service myself and my neighbors have with Verizon is Pennsylvania problem, and Philadelphia in particular. Basically they started with FiOS and then when they realized it wasn't going to pay off in time, they stopped expanding it. In Philadelphia they were half done and IIRC they had some deal with the City or state so they were forced to finish, but only kindof. Its pretty obvious the plan is get everyone they can off of phone lines onto FiOS for as long as they can. This way they get rid of phone techs (many of whome are real employees with benefits) and try to get as much money as they can from the FiOS that has been installed.

Its not even that great all the time. I was at my neighbors' last night watching a netflix show after dinner and in the second hour the download stalled, and stalled, and stalled. It was time to call it a night anyway.

I can See, nobody reads Back...............
Hey I'm nobody now!

And I thought was somebody.
Somebody special.
Heck I didn't even get to ride the short bus.
That's special!

Oh wait. I didn't backread. Therefore I can't be nobody!

Two inmates in Illinois are sitting at the lunch table talking...

One of them says, "Dam, this food is terrible"...

The other one replies, "It used to be better when you were governor"....

I did back read, that's why Tim wondered why it took me so long to reply to the fly ball he threw up for me...

Then I back read again when Mitch questioned us and didn't find any of his posts any different... :BangHead:

Jeez, throw one spark plug in and all hell breaks loose!
Woke everybody up...
And oddly enough, these plugs were made in mexico...

Most of the underside stuff is bolted back up,im beat.time for a nap.

Yep.....Great....
Tim, you asked me once if I’d ever disagree with a move a certain exec would make, well, this is the largest example of such. I am surprised and confused as to the rationale behind this move.

not gonna divulge any further into the topic. Just wanted to point it out.

Mexico, China, Taiwan wherever, still foreign junk QC

I wonder if it wasn't for foreign junk we might not have anything to pick from at all, Seems like nothing is made local anymore!
Agreed. Too many rules and regulations, unions and benefit packages. Too many stockholders that demand a good return on their money and way too many CEO's that get bonuses for how much the company profits. Way cheaper to make it in China and ship it over here. They don't have all that over there.

Let me clarify, it’s not that the product itself is junk, it’s the QC process. I deal with QC daily and with companies all over the globe, in 60 plus countries, those 3 countries have the absolute worst QC protocols of all. And it’s not a single supplier from those countries, it’s generally all of them. I think it’s a cultural thing. For those three countries, it’s widely accepted to have a large defect rate because labor and material is so much cheaper than having to pay for the expensive QC processes.

Not wrong, but that’s not the whole story either. A HUGE part of the labor shift besides just it being cheaper was /is the available, young work force. China being the largest population, had an ungodly number of available workers and those were willing to work in crappy conditions.

that said, China as well as Japan will be having a major demographic problem in the next couple decades. Both of their populations have aged so dramatically due to the stringent population controls ongoing since the 1940s that there are actually more people dying or aging out of the work force in China than there are young people to replace them. Japan is the same way
