Chris - Does that car have an Ammeter in the dash?
Everything stock?

everything is stock, yes sir. and it does, but the gauges aren't hooked up, the the pins are broke off the back.

But the ammeter is hooked up?

The wires to it are ring terminals - they go over studs and are held on with nuts.

no, panel isn't even in car. I'm guessing now, it should be?

Once you are wired up, use continuity checks to be sure the key switch does what its supposed to.
Safer than testing it live.

disconnect the neg, and to be safer, positive too at the battery.
With a battery powered circuit checker or a multimeter set to resistance.
1. Clip one lead to the battery wire, and the other lead to the ballast resistor or backprobe the terminal.
a. Key off, check the reading. Should be zero. (no light or buzzer if continuity tester)
b. Key in run, check the reading.
c. Key in start, check the reading
d. key in accessory - just for completeness. check the reading

2, Clip or back probe the second lead to the coil side of the resistor.

No grounds.
Somehow it was wired up to get power to the key switch and the coil.
Somehow that was done with an open circuit in the battery feed.
Must have been a u-tube video

So how was it getting power to the key switch?
thats a very good question I'm gonna have to go look at it, not really sure. I know I didn't hook them up. Didn't even think about it.

I wuz kiddin' ya.
Did you actually draw one?
me and electrical stuff don't get along
Gotta stop thinking that way. :poke:
Pretty hard to suceed at anything with mind set. You know that.
If you can hook up a irrigation system or an air line there's no reason you can't hook up a bunch of wires that connect properly!

Well sitting here making a list of house projects I can do.
I have some outdoor painting deck and doorway that I can do. Just need it to warm up.
Looks like car show season will be postponed for a couple months.

Funny. I've been putting off the house projects to get the car done.

Did you see I got the 67-69 assembly manual from Faxon yesterday?
Good stuff but hard to read because of the way they stamped their name all over the pages.

Chris just looked your video. I wouldn't try starting without the throttle cable hooked up.

yeah.

So. let me ask. This weekend was the first time I'd put the battery to the new harness, before then, I had it just wired to the makeshift harness based on the chart I think it was ray or you gave me that allowed me to bypass the underdash harness and just operate the points and coil. now, I disconnected it but could that have left the coil energized and maybe I somehow shorted it ?
