Stop in for a cup of coffee

Morning all. Getting ready to go work in the dart today. Need a break from the Polara, getting mad at it

I had a feeling once,
Actually it was more than that...

Man that throws ya back! When I bit the bullet and decided to go all modern and install a “Audio reverse” deck in my car Boston was the first Cassette I put in. It was paired with a set of Mindblower speakers. Not needing to flip the tape over was just the epitome of cool. Keep in mind at that time innovation was rampant!

Coffee please, with some Baily's... All caught up, raining still, like crazY! 1 inch today so far...

I had a sony deck that was auto eject, store bought cassettes with just one album, when it ejected the tape it would pop out and land on the seat. the tdk sa90’s were heavier and stay in the deck.

SCORE! Found a Genuine Kohler Magneto coil for my mower on ebag for $50 someone selling privately. Less than half dealer price and it's old stock so more likely comparable to the original that has worked since '94. I can get a knockoff replacement for $25, but they don't come with the plug boots installed (some don't even include them) and the reviews are horrible. Sounds like they are good for a year or so IF they work when new... F'n junk.

You like Boston? want to know more about how that song was written and produced? Here ya go.

First tim i ever saw a song taken apart like this. I think he spent as much time taking down to the bones as they took putting it together. not really, but that song was a real stroke of genius!

Must have been your no spark issue.

That auto eject feature caused many a floor board scramble! I had not thought about TDKs in a million years. They were the best!
Cassettes were a HUGE leap from 8tracks!!!!! I had a Sanyo with auto reverse, there was a way to kind of push the auto reverse button. and the tape would play in reverse, and it could be heard. THAT is how I listed to the backwards messages on Styx Kilroy was here album.....And there are lots of them......
SERIOUS ISSUES UNDERLIE A NEW ALBUM FROM STYX

Ok 318la. Has 8-10* of slop in the timing chain. Try just replacing it and maybe eat the time and gaskets if that doesnt get it running or tear it down for a possible re-ring/seal job or worst case senario total rebuild?
Opinions?

I like this chain, it's very durable and will go over 150,000 miles...

Then do a compression check dry and wet to see if the rings are in good shape... Chances are they are ok, the original timing chains for the 318 stretch easy... I replaced one on a 68 318 with 84,000 miles and gained 2 mpg...

Needs a chain and gears. Can you do a compression test or a leakdown? That will help you decide. It won't tell you how far the bearings are gone though. I would tear it down. A re-ring, bearings and gaskets may be all it needs.

I like where TMM is going with this...

If you need a refresh, Mancini has reasonable prices on basic ring and bearing kits with gaskets...

Kit A with cast iron rings, main and rod bearings, and teardown gasket kit, $200:

Sealed Power Engine Kit - 318

Sealed Power Engine Kit - 318

Kit B with moly rings, main and rod bearings, and teardown gasket kit $205:

Sealed Power Engine Kit - 318

Clevite 77 Engine Kit - 318

Moly rings break in faster and last longer... I would go with one of the B kits for only $5 more....
