Stop in for a cup of coffee

Now that’s a surreal example of the new “normal”.

The ice cream truck just came through the neighborhood playing the usual music. What’s surreal is that the guy selling ice cream is wearing a face mask and the people buying are all patiently waiting their turn about 10’ apart in family groups with their kids taking turns and coming up one at a time until it’s the next family’s turn...all wearing masks.

It used to be about a minute or two at each stop as everyone rushed the truck, but now I have been listening to the music from the truck for the past 15 minutes and there is still a line waiting to get their turn. The families walk away and after a few yards, remove their masks and enjoy the special treat they just got.

Life may never be the same again...not in a bad way necessarily...just different...and somehow surreal.
The new normal will likely be different. I sure don’t want to wear a mask at work forever though.

my employer is talking about converting us to remote working long term, our efficiency is up nearly 70 percent while working from home. We expected it to drop. We’re not really sure what’s causing it, but people are more focused, making less errors and working faster.

Not sure I could handle 15 minutes of ice cream truck ‘music’ :realcrazy:

I almost couldn’t. It’s what made me go outside to see WTF was going on. I was all ready to tell the guy to shut that crap off until I saw what was going on.

I guess I’m the new UPS/FedEx/USPS local service package delivery guy. We got 5 packages in the last 2 hours hour all addressed to neighbors, not us.

Sigh. I did my rounds and gave them to the correct addresses. Ring door bell, place packages against front door, wave through the door side glass, step back off the curb and when they open the door, tell them it was delivered to us by mistake.

Rinse and repeat. That’s now 8 deliveries we got this week in error.

Why would you have too?
Ok, so here’s the deal. You have somebody on ignore who posts regularly. We respond to his posts. You wonder what is gong on. I have given explanations a few times . Not doing that anymore. Don’t want to be rude, but If you don’t want to miss stuff you will need to ignore people yourself one post at a time instead of a block setting.

Sorry, didn’t realize that’s what had brought it up. My bad.

The is one of the drawbacks of living near a park (in a city where anything goes, there's always one or two that are obnoxious).

One of the joys of living out in the sticks, I’ve not seen an ice cream truck in probably 15-20 years in this area. When I lived in a suburb years ago, every weekend from May thru September one would drive thru.

What were the odds that all three services would misdeliver to your house on the same day.
:realcrazy:
At least it was a gorgeous day to be outside.

Driveby is a totally different than parking for 1/2 hour with the 'music' blaring. There's actually some rule about how long they can run it, but one guy in particualr is deaf, and to top it off his truck's generator is loud and stinks. Sometimes I'll walk down and motion to him, and he turns the speaker off. Another neighbor spoke with him a couple years ago - and that made it easier to deal with him. A woman's touch is often more effective than the angry guy confrontation thing. ;)

Yeah I’ve seen that work a few times. When I worked 3rd shift security at the local base, we had an older lady, Teressa. She was always really good with tense situations. I realized that the fight part of fight or flight response seems to get triggered much less often when a woman approaches things.

I used to live out in the sticks. The sprawl has definitely encroached over the years.....

I’m sure it’ll eventually encroach out this way too. The good news is for us, most of what’s between us and town is flood plains. Two or three times a month, river floods, 15-20 feet deep outwards of 1-2 miles from its normal banks. That means less room for new houses to pop up

I ran into that too because I had two coffee visitors on ignore. I still think they are mindless but I don't miss anything taking them off ignore.

Not to change subject, but I like the new name! How do you change it?

So would the a/c compressor on a 318 poly be the same compressor as a 74 duster?? Would it bolt onto an LA ??

I think I'm going to get that poly spinning next week. It was rebuilt in 1996 and has been sitting since 1999.

I'm going to be gentle and try to grease it up before attempting to crank it.

To me the ignore setting’s like someone is right there while you are having a conversation, but chooses to keep their headphones on. Then asks what they missed...:BangHead: I 'ignore' lots of posts on here. Not necessarily in a bad way. Maybe it's just not any interest or whatever... Just like in a face to face conversation. I can still listen to everything that is said, and choose what I want to respond to. Or, I can STFU. LOL

Frickin PA extended 'stay at home till June 4" . :BangHead: There are some very limited areas that are still having a problem, but we are divided in 6 regions and the worst county in your region determines when you are cleared to the next step. I'm guessing Tike will have some thoughts on that in the morning  @dartnabout . I agree with a lot of what we are doing, (or at least did agree to start)but some is going overboard and getting to be a PITA.. Now with this extension a lot of places are still not working that could be. Will be getting more details tomorrow (later today)on exactly what the latest requirements are.

Happy Friday from the once again frozen tundra. Arghh. Looks like it is not going to get over freezing mark at night for the next 3-4 days. Sure glad we throttled back on planting garden. Our snow level was 3-5 ft most all winter and as a result the dumb rabbits have barked our apple tree from about five ft down. Tree was a great little producer as we would can a lot of apples from it. Does not look like it is going to survive the rabbits attention.
