Stop in for a cup of coffee

I have a special place in my heart for old Impalas. My Dad had many of them over the years when I was growing up. 1960 wagon, 1966 wagon, 1974 wagon and a 1980 sedan. I had a 1966 sedan that I drove during my Senior year in High School. I think I paid $150 for it in 1980.
Louis bought “casper” shortly after his wife passed. greasepot engine, leaks and whatnot.
asks if i could fix the oil leaks while he was away on a trip.

pulled it in my garage, pulled valve covers, carb and cleaned everything up. Painted it, and used chrome valve cover hold downs and put on a nice air cleaner i had on the shelf.
Next thing i know, we are pulling engine, getting it rebuilt, 4bbl headers and chrome/polished aluminum all over the place.
Looked really nice. i can take that car any time i want, and drive it like i stole it.
i dont, but i can. Would love to pull it and give it another once over.

That's pretty cool. Nice picture too. We rarely took pictures of our cars, or even with our cars. Wish we did.
How many friends could you pack in that car? Not that you ever would have done such a thing.
The most I ever got into it was 11 people. I was the ride to and from for the Varsity football team when we were doing the 2-a-day practices during football camp in late August that year. :D

My auto upholstery genes kicked in when I saw that pic. Would look great with a white top or maroon to match the interior. Of course, the side molding would need to be color keyed to match...

I assume everyone was just glad for the ride even if the tight quarters weren't just fun to see if it could be done.

I might submit a new 'how to' article about removing electrical terminals from connectors.

Only need a few basic tools.

It wasn’t too tight since it was a 9 passenger wagon to begin with and the total ride time was around 20 minutes with people being let off every few minutes. If I had really tried to pack it, we could have gotten 15 guys in it, no problem!

Now I'm Hungry......
im just opening they all make it this year. First time planting on my own property, away from the farm's established garden area. the hops look to be doing okay so far. I'm gonna get a 300 gallon water tank that will fit in the bed of the truck and haul water in a few times a week

That car was the one I had through graduation but sold that Summer and bought the Citronyella 1971 Demon from my older sister to take to my first year at the University of Delaware...

I have a burned image in my brain of the 3 round tail lights on a 65. Guy embarrased me.. Turned out to be a hot 427/4 speed/4.11 car.. Left my 340 Challenger in the dust..

Granted he was an older guy and probably a much better wrench than my 17 year old ***...

But that is the one *** whooping that will always be remembered.

I wish I could remember what we called the '66 Impala more door my buddy drove :BangHead:.
We scrounged a set of headers for it like $10 worth, glass packs from the salvage yard freebies.
There were large numbers painted on the doors 1-4
The '66 VW squareback was "Piglet"
Had CHP reject L70x15s on it.
We had to do some trimming on the wheel wells, well not some, a LOT.
The tires were $2.50 each at another buddy's Chevron station across town.
Might have only had 500 miles on them, but if they got a nail in them CHP junked them.

I found an old pic of my Dad’s 1960 Impala wagon. White over blue. That’s my Mom sitting on the tailgate with me swinging the bat during a rest stop on Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge mountains in 1968.

Police cruisers up here run their tires until the air is showing. every service the tires, brakes are measured. No action until treads and linings are at 0 or less.

I think I told you all about the old man in the 68 Cuda that roasted the punks in a newer Mustang GT outside the motel 8 at Carlisle didn’t I? That was hilarious. They taunted him for several blocks, before he finally yelled back at them.

Reminded me of Hoppy’s pop mobile story

Steve Darnell put a guy in a new mustang in his place, with the D-rod. Guy shut down, turned around an buggered off.
Steve sees him a a gas station a few weeks later and approached him. Guy never thought that old rat rod would be that fast.

@Ben Drinkin, I've got your set up, ended up coming with the roof, and 2 of everything else. Although Im not familiar enough to know what all should be included. No cable, that Im aware of, I didnt look through the box of parts. If you want pics of anything let me know.. Otherwise, lets figure out a date that works for both of us, or more???

Found an image close to my Dad’s ‘66 Impala wagon. It was this color tan with a gold interior...but with stock wheels and covers...327 V8 with a Posi rear and AC.

That car was used for the first round of unleaded fuel testing at Sunoco back when he worked for them. Besides free fuel for a year, he got a free engine tear down and rebuild as a part of participating. It was a contirubutor to the data that showed that without lead, valves burned so hardened seats were needed in the next gen engines.

My dads favorite car was a red 64 impala similar to this.. He always told me be wished he never sold it.. I made a model kit for him one year when I was a teenager, but we lost that when our house burnt down. Would of been cool if he could of drove one again before he passed.

Anyone who is a racer has that same memory in one form or another. Anyone who says they don’t, didn’t race often! Mine is of a Camaro of all things. Scorched me. Hate em to this day.

Lol I got beat by a Dodge Ram 1500. Little did I know it wasn’t stock when I challenged it in a z28.

In 1973, I was beat by a 68-69 GTS small block, with my 68 RR 383 4spd, 411 gear. Only race I ever lost....

Wicked cool! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I'll see how quickly I can map out an excursion. Whereabouts in the northern tundra are you?
