Stop in for a cup of coffee

This GA election should be interesting tonight. Results should be certified in 2022, maybe.......

Should always start in the middle, installing pistons................

Almost looks like it is rotated in there also or is it just sitting in there. I did that once really screwed up my crank. Had to cut it and get it re balanced also. Expensive mistake for sure.

Rubber hose to guard crank from damage. One slip and its start over.

Chris did you chase the head bolt holes also? That can screw you also.
not yet, I did chase the main cap holes before I put the studs in back in.

Used heat shrink but same idea

I think it was just sitting at the time. It’s square in there now.

You do know you have to start in the middle and work out right??????? Just like torqueing any other part to reduce flex.

Yes. I was gently putting each in to check deck height across the bores when I took that pic. No rings. Rod cap tight but not torqued

How can you check deck height without them all in and tightened to spec?
Crank is torqued down, clearance is .0018, I’ve got to do the rod caps yet so that .053 is rough measure at the moment

Again, that pic was just a quick one, at the start earlier today

I was talking rods? I have always done it with them all in and tightened to specs to ensure the crank is uniform across all the journals.

Back when Chicago wasn’t full of pansies

I’m getting to it. I took a dinner break and ran into Napa for more plastigage.

And I’m following instructions step by step in the Big Block Mopar guide book.

Shouldn't the arrow on the piston that points to the front of the engine be on the top and not the bottom????

Or are all the pistons the same and the arrow is on top for one bank and bottom for the other...

The arrow should point to the front of the block/engine....

Why not you tube?
The book has you put a piston in holes 1,2, 7 & 8 to check deck height squareness. It also says to snug up caps but not torque yet.

if this is a bad way, I’ll do it your way to be safe. I kind of trust you all more

It’s not, the engine is rotated 90 degrees from the top. The arrow is on top when the block is rotated back straight up. I have it rotated so I can guide the rod down thru while pushing the pistons

look at the top of the pic. You can see the motor Mount bosses.
