Stop in for a cup of coffee

Snow is piling up. Gotta be a few inches of white fluff now and if they are right, this thing is barely started. Guess I will give it a couple hours and run the blower once today.

Break it down in stages...

I tried to wait and do it all at once... Big mistake, too much for my single stage blower and I had to chop at it....

We've gotten about 10" - 12" so far since last night... :BangHead:

I always try to keep ahead of it if timing allows. So far we got about 4-5”. Cleared that. I probably could have waited til morning, because they said it won’t be heavy overnight. But I wanted to clear the stuff they plowed in the entrance. If I gotta go out, might as well get it all done

We are a bit behind you as the snow didn’t start here until around 1 pm. We have about 3” now but they are forecasting it to become heavy overnight. Storm total for us is now forecast at 12”-18”.

We don’t need to go anywhere, so I will wait until it’s over to begin clearing. Last time we did it part way through the storm, we got mixed rain/freezing rain that made it harder to clear in the end after it froze solid down to the asphalt. The parts we didn’t clear only had a crust on top and were a lot easier to dig out.

This storm has a risk of mixed precipitation around midnight tonight so I’m just letting it all be.

We didn't get any rain with this snow, just 29° - 32° so it's the wet heavy snow that sucks to clear from the driveway and side walks, but fun to make snowmen and have snowball fights...

I remember you posting about that snow and ice... That was crazy... :realcrazy: :BangHead:

Looks like the Nor’easter is beginning to wind up. The winds jumped from 8 mph to 24 mph in the last hour. Gusts are increasing too. They say we are supposed to get to 30 mph sustained with gusts to 50 mph.

Oh joy...:(

Beer and blanket on the sofa next to the fireplace time...

Hey Dave.....

Be safe you guys! Hope the power stays on. We only got 1” of snow here, if that.

Sounds perfect. I need to get our fireplace lined and/or put a gas insert in it.
It's too nice not to enjoy.

My dad had our upstairs fireplace converted to gas... The downstairs fireplace is still natural logs...

When I run the upstairs gas fireplace my gas bill goes up...

When I use the downstairs fireplace, the wood gets messy when the stuff falls off the logs... However we are near a forest preserve and have lots of trees nearby, so firewood is usually "free" after you get a dead tree cut down in our yard... (You still have to pay the tree service, so it's not truely free)...

But I like the wood fireplace better... There's no substitute for the smell and the way the wood burns in a natural wood fireplace... Dad taught me how to build a fire in the fireplace when I was 4 years old and I've loved building fires since...

Dad and I like to build large warm fires... When you look at the fireplace, you see it full of flame... Mom used to tease us and say that the flames in our fires go half way up the chimney... (sometimes they may have)...

We threw a New Year's Eve party here one year and had it downstairs... I took care of the fire in the fireplace and had the downstairs rec room so warm, they opened the outside door to cool it down... Our fireplaces here have liners and vents so when the fire gets hot, the natural convection circulates the air from the lower inlet ducts to the upper outlet ducts... Makes the fireplace more efficient for heat... It's a large fireplace and I like to build them warm... :D

It's cool to warm up by the fire and stare into the fire and coals and see them glowing... Especially with a Dalmatian next to me enjoying it also... :D

Ours is a gas fireplace...just flip the switch and it’s on. The thermopile from the pilot provides the power to activate the switch, so it works even if the power is out. Can even put a thermostat on it if we decide to. Nice and cozy!

I don't miss the winters in NJ or Reno, Nevada. Was 56 here today and rain.
