All I know is... this is further proof I need to stay away from wires lol

3 phase is really good for motors, can be easily reversed, and soft started, with the right device. AND lots cheaper to run same HP motor....I have wired lighting on 3 phase, only because that was what was there to run other things....just a ground and a single phase, As Kieth knows, but not everyone else does...

A lotta lunches were bought or won on that impromptu wager on getting the rotation of a 3 phase motor right on the first guess

One of my standard questions to maint tech applicants is the scenario of a conveyor jammed and you need to reverse it to clear. Which two wires do you switch. Some of the answers and explanations are literally laugh out loud funny. I usually pose this question after they explain to me what excellent industrial electricians they are. Don’t even get me started on explaining a 4-20ma loop!

just need to switch any two......

don't forget about 277 voltage.
If crossed it can make a very large set of needle nose disappear, with a big booom
Most buildings that have a 480 - 3 phase supply will use 277 for lighting. This is one hot leg to neutral. So even though it is derived from 3 phase, in itself is only single phase.

Unless the gear reduction box in the drive system has a "back stop"

I used to work for a company that refurbished carnival rides... I replaced all the wiring they ripped out when were prepping to weld, repaint...I have seen some stuff!! European rides are very complicated...

We are burning sage for you today. Can’t wait to read your post surgery, posts while gorked out of your mind on pain meds sitting in your luxury suite being waited on hand and foot by some stunning long legged nurse. Popcorn will be served! Or you could end up with Zmans attendant “Bubba” who just got out of the pen!

I am alive. Just in hospital for 6 hours. Lots of rest and avoiding meds. No Hubba Hubba or Bubba helping. Just my boy doing an amazing job. Thanks all.

Morning all!
Back in shop today.
the day will stay below freezing.
The the customer that lost his son a couple weeks ago took a 62 chrysler in for safety inspection.they destroyed the left rear brake drum. Turns out i may have a drum for him.
The “inspector” obviously has no clue, and has no business doing inspections. Had my customer gone locally, they know the car,and also know i have the drum puller, which i will loan to them. Community, not competition.

I have a drum, and it should measure within spec. Im giving it to him. He said a new one is $500. Shop charged him $300 to eff up the drum.
