Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good Morning Everyone. Too much to bad read. I hope all is well out there. Worked on my Boy's rat rod (1931 Model A sedan) all weekend. Brake lines run, bench bled the master, bled lines, new hardware for the 4 link, and made fuel cell mounts and got them welded in. Need to make a floor next, then on the home stretch. Headlights, tailights, final shimming of king pins, and driveshaft should be all that is left (likely other little things I forgot).

Check the dates on them here in PA over ten years not inspectable,. I like Cooper and Michelin Had good luck with them.

I will add that here in Indiana, while we don’t have inspections, if you have an accident that is proven to be the result of tires over 10 years old, insurance can deny coverage.

Yes, "They were on the car when I bought it" probably doesn't fly eh??

Thanks guys. Good points

Hey Eric,

Power or manual brakes?

I need to bend/flare line this week as well.

The tires I had on the Corvette were 20 years old....

Yeah but in Maryland you only have to suffer one ridiculous inspection for the life of the car.

I had the podunk shop mechanic arguing with the dealership service manager about ball joint tolerances on my 4 year old Pontiac when I moved to MD

how did they split them?
Iron wedge, a maul, and some gluts.
Your ancestors may have also used a holzaxe - I'm not sure on the history of those but IIRC Henry Mercer has one he collected in Ancient Carperters' Tools.

For splitting rails like Willie Chris mentioned thats almost easier with two axes, especially if the grain is twisted like we find with locust. Begin the split, then do the same in line with the first, then cut across the grain to join them.

this oak is going to become 4 foot rough shingles

Manual brakes. This has a Chevy impala style master and front calipers, F150 rotors out front and 9" axle with drums out back. All double flare. I finally bought a nice Cornwell manual double flare tool. I wish I bought the hydraulic turret style though.

Something like this..

Cool

Yeah, just cruiser radial tires so not looking for serious speed rating or traction. I'll have to go look at the wheel/ tires combo thread and see what is out there. I have Cooper Cobras now. I'll have to give them a good inspection. Might just flip them onto the new rims
I like the cobras. I had kelly navigators on a daily driver, those were great tires. The navigator gold were better but discontinued.

I got the mastercool kit, works great. Not the turret style. Sure beats the old double flare kit.

I sold quite a few of those kits. We have a lot of rusty lines replaced here. They work well.
