Stop in for a cup of coffee

The more I see about push buttons, the more it makes me glad that I was really freaked out by that early 60s Dodge my grandmother had. It just didn't seem proper to use a shifter like that

Bah... moving levers around like you are driving some farm tractor is barbaric....

The first ready mix plant I ever operated made concrete had levers  That evolved to lever controlled air valves, evolved to push button air solenoids, evolved to computer operated air solenoids. That's when it got kinda boring

Quick update.

Sent a note over to A and A Transmission yesterday. Rick gave me a call this morning and we talked for a bit. Nice guy, very knowledgeable. He's going to look for some things for me.

Short story - (@dukeboy_318 ) - it IS POSSIBLE to remove the rear pump on an early A904 Torqueflite but it requires a bunch of work and modifications - Heliarc some areas, customize valve body passages...etc. He's done it before but it was a $5K job. That is NOT what was done to mine...you can't do it with a more modern valve body swap and removal of the rear pump. Apparently there is something you can do with a 727...but it is not the same.

SO... there's that.
Sounds like you finally got to root cause. Good work. The rest is just stuff.

Sure is ! She looked a lot like your pup . Took her out for a walk for an hour and a half , got home and I let her in the house and she started running in the house , she dumped over her water dish and ran into the kitchen cupboard , so I told her to slow down, so she went into the living room and I thought she went to lay on the couch. But no she bounced off the couch and ran right into the china cabinet . I thought she knocked herself out . But my wife said she is not breathing . I called the vet , he is just down the road from me , so I got her in the car , the vet took her in and a couple minutes later he came out and said she died instantly. She broke her neck . My heart was broken . Even having a hard time typing this!!

We lost one in very similar manner, nose down, tracking at speed and ran into tree. For those unfamiliar with the breed they are big and very fast, and can be very focused and oblivious to all else. During daily exercise sessions our present one maintains 24 mph for an easy 75 yards. No idea what her burst speed is. Just heart breaking FOG.

I never claim to be an expert in anything. That is when you discover gaping holes in your knowledge base. Kinda like asking someone in a store where something is and they point to the shelf right next to you.
I love discovering a gaping hole....

Yep I fit right in there with ya.

Yeah.... I really don't want to get into a fistfight with the builder. He meant well... I don't know. Anyone have thoughts
Take a knee, regroup. Nothing can be gained but drama trying to extract anything from builder. I would call the whole experience tuition and move on. As my mentor once told me, I figure if you aint making mistakes you are not learning anything. But then he added, just don’t try and learn to much in one day!

That's where I'm at.... No reason to start a shootin' war. He acted in good faith.

Which is probably why I’ve not seen the rear pump Delete successfully done very much even with a 727

Which is why I questioned it early on. 727s and 904s are straight forward… with one exception, the 62-64 pushbuttons. They are a nightmare

Nightmare in what way? I have to rebuild mine soon and am curious...

Got a good friend that lives in Canada about 40 miles north of me that I'm meeting at a border town for lunch today. Says he has a present for me so hopping he decided to sell me his 65 Hemi Belvedere. LOL
Not gonna happen...
What town is he in? That’s about the same distance our friends live from the border. Glenboro. Or Baldor. Is the area.

There's just a couple of things you have to be aware of. Problem is that none of the books that are out there show you how to deal with the extra pump and the Park lock. Otherwise, I think it's just stacking clutches and such.

Thoughts Chris? (@dukeboy_318 )

Kits are different for one. Dual pumps cause an issue if you’re trying to swap Valve bodies.
Converters have a different spline count so don’t go ordering just any converter
