I gor my hose today. It looks right for the early 273 cars. It's for A/C but everyone uses this one. It's a lot more correct than the one that's on there now.
I think I need a different thermostat housing...one that tilts direct forward, not the side or straight up.

Kind of expensive, I think.
With that hose you got it should use a straight up one shouldn't it?
My hose looks amazingly similar to Mike's hose.. But it doesn't fit my application....
But I did hack-down the wrong hose to make it KINDA work. but it kinks where it drops onto the thermostat housing. No bueno
