Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good evening folks.

Well, we brought my brother-in-law home from the hospital today. He is one very angry and depressed person right now.

On the ride home he started in on how he wanted to be taken off the transplant list, stop taking meds and just die. I stopped the car on a bridge and told him that if that's what he really wanted, he needs to stop wasting everyone's time and emotional energy and just get out of the car and jump.

He looked at me and started to open his mouth and I said "If you say one more f'ing word about wanting to die, I will grant that wish and drag your *** out of this car and throw you off this bridge right now."

He closed his mouth and stopped talking. I then said "We are taking you home where you will recover and regroup. We can talk more about this tomorrow...but everything I just said still goes."

Now he needs time alone to regain his perspective.

We had to do the same thing, well, close to it to my father in law. Sometimes people in those situations start to lose focus and use want a sympathy parade, that's when you gotta smack them with reality

Yeah, they are also angry and are looking for someone or something to rage against since they feel so helpless and can't fight with the thing they are really angry at. The hard part is to not engage in the argument and smack them back hard with tough love.

My wife still struggles with that, she lets herself get drawn into the fight instead of shutting it down. She responds to the words instead of looking at the big picture and letting the words fall on deaf ears. She's getting better at it but it's still hard for her.

My wife and sister in law do the same.

Have a similar situation with my father -in-law right now. 68 y/o diagnosed with lung cancer. My wife had a conversation with him and he seems to be doing much better now. The conversation entailed '2 packs a day for 40+ years ,you're already lucky, and no need to be miserable to everybody else, we ALL want to enjoy what's left." family, grandkids ,etc.

It's stuff like this that makes me very glad I have the GTS to work on. It's like therapy for me. The more insane and stressful the situation becomes, the more I'm glad to be able to distract myself with some quiet time cleaning up details, replacing screws, etc.

It's funny but things like cleaning up the washer bottle were always on my list but too time consuming to bother with for a slightly better result. But when the madness peaks, I'm happy to be able to spend a few mindless hours scrubbing and polishing it.

Today after bringing my BIL home, I refinished the kick-down linkage and added the side decal to the battery. I also replaced 3 slightly rusty hose clamps.

That engine compartment looks great! I'm a long way from from sweating tarnished hose clamps on my ride lol, but i get it. I go polish the aluminum on my bike or the wheels on my truck , and I'm a different person when I'm done.

Thanks!

Yeah, if the stress levels continue at this rate...every nut and bolt on the car will be fully refinished by Christmas!

Here's where I started almost exactly 1 year ago...

what do you need for the flt? my best friend is a dyed-in-wool biker - has tons of connections
Trying to find 85-99 lower sliders, dual disk for touring. If the clear is peeling I'm ok with that. I'm going to polish them anyway. The tubes and cans I can get. Already have a fender and have a line on a wheel
