that pic is of it's good side though - the paint is really rough and over all the body is in so-so shape.. the interior really is rough

That gives you something to do though.

Sounds like I could make some money....Did they say if they caulk it and what they use? Guarantee no leaks...

Well ****! I have to find out.. I didnt even think to ask how they do the install or if they guarantee it. I installed the windshield thats in there now. No damn way, Im going to do that again! It took me forever, the rope trick didnt even work on the front. I got the rear in in 15 minutes using the rope.

The first place says life time guarantee no leaks as long as there is no rust present. If there is rust (which there is not). They cant guarantee it. The receptionist I talked to really was unsure if they used urethane on every windshield install.

Should they use urethane? Or anything I should tell them that they should do?

Hey I know you guys are working, but those of you that get the History channel. Have you ever watched Forged in Fire? Its a reality type show where 3 blacksmiths have to forge some sort of bladed weapon out of various types of materials and then they put it thru tests..... Its interesting watching how they go thru the whole process!

yea - we watched it a couple of times - interesting, but I didn't care for the "contest" aspect of it...

They were designed to use butyl. I like the ribbon stuff around it and the caulk gun goop under the front. I did add urethane under the edge against my glass after it was in place before I zipped the lock strip in. We did not do the urethane on Hoppy's, and his did not leak. I have seen some saying urethane is required legally, because it has to be bonded (which butyl does not do). I know some guys say they have them in with no sealant, Maybe OK on the glass, but I would require something to the metal.

I enjoy it quite a bit. There is a lot of good talent to be able to hammer some of the things they have to start with into a functioning weapon.

For instance some of the objects they had to choose their metal from, a lawnmower, backhoe bucket, ball bearings. Pretty damn cool!

Gotcha, I keep seeing this lock strip thing. My gasket didnt have a lock strip, nor a place for one.

So does $350 for the glass installed sound like a decent price? I mean I know it would be cheaper if I did it myself, but if they guarantee it that is a plus.

I think the reason I can't commit to buying a "new" truck is that the wrench turner in me wants to take a stab at repairing the plow truck I have now... the parts are super easy to come by and I can probably have a good to go plow truck for 2-3k... put it up on blocks out back this summer and have at it..

Should be set in 3m bedding compound, One thing about a glass co. doing it, it's their baby if they break it. PPG is better aftermarket glass.

Not terrible, since it looks like you would pay most of that just to get the glass otherwise.

what is wrong with your current truck?

I totally understand that. I think if I already had a truck and I already know the history of it. I would be in the same boat. You could get that truck and something major could pop up and now your sticking more money into it. If your truck is fairly solid and could become something you would really enjoy after putting money into I would just stick with that route.

Thanks for the input George.

not around here, I called around, most would not insure the glass if they break it removing it. Only if the glass is new and it breaks during install would they warranty it

That's what I'm saying. If they break the new one it's on them, and I have seen some glass guys really fight gasketed glass when it comes to aftermarket glass and aftermarket gaskets.

I would be getting new glass. I dont care if they break the old. Its so pitted and scratched it honestly sucks to drive into the sun.
