Stop in for a cup of coffee

This one made me chuckle:

Well it couldn't have been the OP's work - he did everything like he read about on the internet and in the adverts.
All he has to do is drive faster into the corners - that will even out the wear.

I want your opinion on a engine build but I won't listen unless it's exactly how I think it should be. Arggg.
Well I was thinking about maybe making a 400 billion hp engine that gets 28 mpg and uses these parts I already bought...

Reminds me of some of my neighbors asking for advice on their houses. I've gotten more selective about even listening - just need to balance my response enough to keep it neighborly.

I've answered some of his questions the past few months.. yea he's green alright. He'll get there (hopefully)
Well I was plenty green myself at one time. I remember taking my first engine apart. I asked a guy, where are the bearings, looking for what I thought bearings looked like, ball bearings!! He was kind of short with me! I was 18 in the navy. I have since taught myself a lot, with some help from my friends!

Oh yea. Me too. A Sunday night and I'm trying to figure out what the motor mounts look like that I need to loosen so I can get the oil pan free. It was past midnight when I knew I'd have it together and would make it to work the next morning. All to install a high volume pump - which didn't really solve the problem (worn bearings) but maybe it helped. Straight 6 with points '74 Nova - it was great car to learn on.

Me too.. Only I was dumb as bucket of hair to boot. Rebuilt my first engine, 72 340.. 10.5:1 pistons, 284/484 cam, (everything else stone stock).. Figured I'd have the fastest car on the planet... spent 2 weeks trying to get the damned thing to run.. just cranked and cranked (probably ruined the cam before it ever fired). Had a half-dozen young brainiacs look at it too. everything was spot on.. Figured i really dicked something up putting it together.

Older guy came over to look at it.. closed the choke on the thermoquad and it popped right off! 2 weeks and never considered a choke!

Motor was a complete dog until it hit about 3k. sounded great tho..

I sure wish I knew then what I know now (which is still admittedly limited)..

Ya. Howabout all the stuff that you almost have to learn by experience? What's it feel like when its too rich - kindof like when I would forget to open the choke or hook the fast heat line up on non-mopar. LOL That list could go on for a while.:p:)

Be a good thread, "Things I hosed up when learning about cars"

We all have to learn stuff. Whether its self taught or book learnin.
The internet now has us believin 400 horsepower is doable in a 4 cylinder honda.

I learned the hard way, busted knuckles and bleeding forehead
Followed with a lot of dirt in my eyes. Or coolant or atf or the worst-carb cleaner.you havent learnt nuthin til you find out how painful carb cleaner in the eye is.

Yes sir.. The list of dumbshit I did out of ignorance is long and varied! I have no problem with the fact that I was young and inexperienced.. It's just that I thought I was so good! And I was close to moron status! I'm much better now, I realize I don't know everything!
