Even if it's new?Distributor needs to be checked. Put a light on it and watch the timing advance curve. I bet it’s fubar.
Fix a weak link and then the next one shows up...

New is meaningless, proper function must be verified.Even if it's new?
By putting a light on it and holding steady at 2000 RPM where it’s breaking up, you will quickly know if the ignition is solid...or if it’s something else.Even if it's new?
Noted ill suggest it to him, thanks DaveNew is meaningless, proper function must be verified.
The advance curve may be a mess.

What is "about 8 * BTDC"? Used a light?Guys, a friend of mine is having the below issues with his 77 W200, 318
Ok guys I am at a total loss on my carb issue with my 77. Here is what all I have done. Rebuilt carb (Carter BBD, float set at 1/4", accelerator pump measured at 1/2"), new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, dizzy and now fuel pump. Timing set to about 8* BTDC. Idles smooth as glass. But falls flat at the hit of the throttle and trying to hold a steady rpm say around 2000. Ran fine before i monkeyed with the carb other than the accelerator pump was weak. Any input is greatly appreciated.
What predicated all this work on the engine? Trying to fix????What is "about 8 * BTDC"? Used a light?
I don't know, I'll askWhat is "about 8 * BTDC"? Used a light?
stumbling and falling in its faceWhat predicated all this work on the engine? Trying to fix????
I think the timing is shot. Might be a bad chain/Cam sprocket.. Need to put a light on it.....I don't know, I'll ask
stumbling and falling in its face
Have him pop the Dist. cap, turn the crank by hand, one way a little ,then the other. Watch the rotor. It should move with the crank movement, no slop..I think the timing is shot. Might be a bad chain/Cam sprocket.. Need to put a light on it.....
Maybe on another shine run? LOLI wonder where @toolmanmike has been? He hasn’t stopped in here in a few days.

Last I remember he was displeased with the city council...
Too much judgement in that, just use the light...it will tell the tale.Have him pop the Dist. cap, turn the crank by hand, one way a little ,then the other. Watch the rotor. It should move with the crank movement, no slop..
Awesome will do!Have him pop the Dist. cap, turn the crank by hand, one way a little ,then the other. Watch the rotor. It should move with the crank movement, no slop..
And a timing light....Awesome will do!
Thank you DaveDon’t forget to reset your clocks tonight...daylight savings time tomorrow.
We set the clocks back around dinner time tonight so we go to bed on the new schedule. This way, tomorrow and Monday are a little easier since we are on the new schedule already. We do the same thing in the Fall.Thank you Dave
