Gas is going to pass $7.00/gallon.
Dirty rotten no good for nothing pencil pushing pricks...
ouch

Hey... :poke: :mob:

I'm on the southwest burbs of Chicago... :icon_fU:

But not near the "bad" parts....

Chicago has some parts of the city are ok, not like Detroit where most of downtown is rough.... :elmer:
yeah but still

Take them to my guy, John Tret, he'll get them set up and ported real good...

His son works for a race team that does 6 second quarter miles with twin turbos... He found out how their 'head guy' did their heads, he said that he can make them better and let him do a set... His set that he did got them in the 5 second range.... Now he is their head/valve guy....
I'd have to save for a while lol

Head porting ain't cheap. Just getting them to match out of the box eddys would cost probably 1000-1500. Right now I don't even know what car I'd put an iron headed 440 in.

John is very reasonable priced... Give him a call and ask how much he would charge, I bet it wouldn't be that much...

How far from you is his place

He's about 10 minutes from the Detroit Metro Airport just off Telegraph Road a couple miles north of I-94...

He's so good, that I take all my head work to him, even from Chicago...

When you find a good mechanical guy, you stick to him like glue....

I used to work with John at the engine factory, he's since retired from there and does side work out of his garage... He has a mill and lathe and other machines in his home garage... He also has connections to get block work done at reasonable prices...

I had him rebuild the slant 6 for my ex's 64 Dart and he did the complete build ready to go and primed the oil... All we had to do was drop it in and hook up carb and pulleys...

He can do just the heads or the whole engine, whatever you want/need... He can also modify things to make them work better.... He set up an old Ford model A or T head to be self oiling, instead of using felt pads soaked in oil which need to be replaced/re-oiled every 100 miles as they were from the factory...

He has a great machining background...

I'll try to do hat tomorrow

Give him a deadline to get them done and pad it by a couple weeks and he'll be close...

Don't tell him to do them when he gets time... I did that once and he had them for 5 years... Don't leave the timeline open ended or they will be on the back burner for a while...

After I got those heads back, I had him do about a dozen more for me and have them on the shelf in my basement ready to go...

He always gets work to do and has to make priorities according to when you need them...

All of the local cruisers on Telegraph where he lives know him... He's well known around there...

My youngest son is in Detroit right now visiting his grand parents...

He took one of his enduro motor cycle engines and heads to him to get some help setting them up... He also has my intake for my 318 so he can mill it to fit my engine - the bolt holes don't line up too well right now and I need to have them milled so I can get it fitting correctly...

John also does small airplane heads - like Piper and Cessna... If you are at the airport with your private plane and need valve work, he will take care of them... He also has a private airplane pilot's license himself...

It doesn't matter what the heads are off of, he's great setting them up and doing the valves...

Sweet looks like a trip to MI is in order

He's a real nice guy and him and I get talking for hours sometimes... I always learn new things from him - he really knows engines...

Once you meet him and talk to him you'll see what I mean...

He has heads and engines piled up all over his garage...

Daughter mentioned a trivia fact about North Dakota and here is the result. North Dakota white bison...

I have now completed 40 of the 52 images I set out to do. I still might rework a few, but I should be done with the full set before the week is over.

Morning all, haven't stopped in to say hi in a while. Hope everyone has a good week.

Hanging in there Johnny how business going? Hey you going to Carlisle this week?

We have a WD that's attending (Bench racing parts) I'm providing with some literature and stickers but I myself will not be there unfortunately. We also have a big event at the home base called cruise nights I need to be in Nebraska for. Wish I was going though.

I worked on my Dart all weekend trying to tie up my loose ends before hitting the track a few times this year. Felt like I accomplished nothing all weekend with brake and wiring woes. Bout to push this thing back in the garage until next year :p

Half of this thread is going to be there this year, should be interesting for sure. I have just been busy getting ready have a crapload of distributors and Sun machines I am bringing with me will be a tight fit in the spot for sure.

My truck was like that last moth, came in for bed patches and a pan leak. Turned into brake lines, paint, timing chain rear oil seals, brakes etc! My Dart come in next really want to run it this year. Just one of me and so many hours a day...,

Yup, I have had too many seasons of rushing things together to just "get down the track" so I took my time this year, and redid miles of wirining. And fixed my brake pedal rod and master cylinder geometry. So 3 new brake lines caused me to reinvent the wheel with the entire layout. Then pull out my headlight switch and all my turn signals come on...but no headlights. Can't wait to find that short.

That's the way the truck was. It was given to me apart slapped it together fast for the winter. Pretty much went through the whole thing should be good for a few more years.

Hey Tim Your up early!
