Stop in for a cup of coffee

Sorry Chris but that is just wrong. A/C units need to run long enough to remove the humidity. If you oversize your unit it will short cycle and will run long enough to reduce the inside temp to the set temp but not long enough to remove the humidity. You house will be cool but clammy. Before I updated my boiler, I did a "Manual J" study which tells you what you need for heat and cooling. I talked to a HVAC Engineer and he asked me if our a/c runs non stop for a few days when it get's real hot and muggy in July and August. I said "yes it does" He said "perfect". ''That's just what you want it to do."
that's not terrible. Depending on the type of unit they quoted you for. My grandfather ran a HVAC business for 40 years before he passed. He always said to go 1 step bigger than recommended for size for your home. Less stress on the unit. and price difference wise is usually minimal if any.
Not 'one step bigger' but the next size above the calculation. You don't want it right on the number or less and you never want any piece of equipment to run on endlessly. Slightly oversized will wring out the humidity just fine.

So what does it take to get thrown out of Wallmart? A Posi friend did. HTF does that happen? Jerry Springer will even cut ties then? Opinions?
Lets see, public intoxication, theft, being a generalized A-hole... what are we talking about anyway? Did someone actually get booted from Wally World ?

I have had discussions with the engineer and the estimator. Both agreed that "next size up" was used all to much years ago. Then again in 20 years when your unit needs replaced the next bigger unit is now 2 sizes too big. Most of the new units have variable displacement compressors and variable speed fans. with temp, humidity, and air speed sensors. The unit only runs as strong as it needs to.

yep, it will run what it needs to. It can't do that if it is undersized. And I meant next size from calculated requirement. Not from whatever was there previously.

Hoppy see this one??

Main page some guy just posted a BB distro

I can't copy apparently.

what the ad doesn't show is the gas tank is out of it so it runs off a water bottle and there are some other issues you don't see in the ad

Just curious, but how many projects cars do you have now??

Good evening folks. Long couple of days. Playing with a few images now...

Just gonna leave it at this. My grandfather closed his shop in 1996 and retired, died in 1999. My parents bought his house from my grandma mother. Kept the phone number. To this day, at least once a month, someone is calling to see if he can replace the unit they've had for nearly 40 years that he installed.

I'm sure technologies have changed but I can guarantee you this one, if your AC or furnace is running non-stop that is a MAJOR problem and not only are you wasting electricity but you're wearing out the units out.

Ya just never know about the weather on the Ca coast. Predicted high today 88*, real time high 71*. Yesterday it was 87*. Or the NWS thermometer at the airport went belly up :rofl:Deer season starts this weekend, in normal years that would mean we should get a rain shower in 4 or 5 weeks.

No harm, no fowl. A system not shutting off for a couple days when it's 100° and 90% humidity is efficient. If it cycles on and off every 20 min. under those conditions it is over sized. I wholeheartedly agree, if it runs constantly there's a problem. If the system doesn't cool it is either low on freon or has plugged evaporator and/or condenser cores. If the compressor is noisy it may need replaced which could cause loss of cooling as well. I had the HVAC replaced in our rental house and they oversized the A/C. It does short cycle and it is cool but clammy and not comfortable inside. Just saying.

By how much did they oversize it?
