Squirrel that’s what’s for dinner! Are those possums or large squirrels?
Congratulations!! Wanna rack your brains for your opinion. As much as I love my Grendel, I’m thinking of upgrading. Possibly to 300 Win Mag or 338 Laupua Mag for deer hunting. Bit overkill but I want to also be able to go out west to a buddy’s place in Wyoming and hunt Elk.
Ah yes, Chicken of the Tree!!
Really? I wouldn’t let my X wife run those.Looks like I hit something. I felt a bump in the wheel and about a mile later the tpms light came on and dropped steadily from 30 psi(trigger point for the durango) to 5 psi in the mile I limped it back home luckily doesn’t appear to be any rim damage. Left front has a cut too but holding air, so two new tires tomorrow morning. Laser tape puts all the angles and measurements within spec so definitely not a wear problem. Plus I just rotated these last month.

First thing take the money you will spend on rifle and buy some tires! Hah! On serious note just my opinion, 300 win mag all day every day. Far more versatile, easily harvests elk. And can be “downloaded” for white tail. In addition there is a plethora of ammunition options. And as far as being a leftie that is really not that big of deal anymore most all manufacturers make left bolt guns. I shoot leftie as do our boy and several grandsons. There is no shortage of left handed bolt guns especially in 300 win mag. Just depends on your budget, Nighthawk/Cooper rifles left hand bolt comes immediately to mind, or a Tikka, a Browning, a Remington, a Winchester? Hit gun broker dot com and put in LH bolt action in search profile. Good luck!Congratulations!! Wanna rack your brains for your opinion. As much as I love my Grendel, I’m thinking of upgrading. I shoot leftie so most bolt guns are out, is there a good semi rifle for this purpose
I could not resist, just the first page only on search for LH bolt action had four different rifles from separate manufacturers in 300 win mag at Gunbroker, there were several pages after.First thing take the money you will spend on rifle and buy some tires! Yeah they’ve worn a ton in the last month. Rear ones aren’t near as bad. But gonna replace them all.Really? I wouldn’t let my X wife run those.
Got a bit of that frozen rain here but not too bad. What a day so far. Thought i repaired my left mirror heater in the avalanche. Nope. Did get carb cleaned in the generator, it runs as it should now. Was planning to mock up side steps for kims Xterra, think all i will be doing is measuring. Rear brake has a howl, took wheels off twice, one sticking guide pin and one backing plate rubbing rotor. Hope i fixed it this time.
Its warm, above freezing and some heavy fog. Thinking we may get some rain. That will make a mess on frozen highways.
Cool story Tike.My dad was kind of a legend around here for his hunting and shooting skills. He had 3 guns the one mentioned above and a Fox 12 gauge double barrel and a Ruger 22 pistol. If you went rabbit or hunting with him he would shoot as many rabbits with the pistol as anybody else with shotguns. After he died I was told a funny story. Some local upper lever guys thought they would get one over on him and invited him to a skeet match. They all showed up with their expensive skeet guns and Dad had the old Fox 12 GA. At the end of the day with the tournament over he took 2nd place and only lost by one shot. He never told me. He wouldn't shoot Skeet for some reason but he did that day. The guy who told me was an old boss of his and he said the whole intention was to embarrass my dad and in the end he said My Dad humbled a lot of men. The old man could shoot. I could tell stories for hours.
You have the kid's attention.
While I agree 100%, the OP asked the question which would you choose 300 win mag or the 338. Me personally I use a 308 for most everything. And, very similar shotgun story…when I was in Coaches school for Shotgun part of Olympic feeder program to graduate you had to shoot trap skeet etc. We walked out to the line I put my little beater browning 20 ga O/U in the rack next to a line of 5-20k dollar Italian custom shotguns, there was no end to the smack talk. It looked like an elf’s gun next to the big Italian rigs. Nobody laughed at end of day, I passed the shooting portion with some flair! I got me some street cred that day. I been hauling around that little twenty for a long time! It's not necessarily the gun but the shooter. Why ruin all the meat just to blow it to he** My dad hunted out west and has a record mule deer rack. He would shoot 300 yards with out flinching hunted ground hogs in a 500 yard field. All with the same gun and one that I use. A Remington model 722 257 Roberts. As me old man used to say never shoot against a man with one gun. I wouldn't want to take on a grizzly with a 257 but then they have been killed with a lot smaller gun. Make the shot count.

Great gun. Have my dad’s Remington 722 .257 Roberts. It was made in 1949. It’s hunting days aren’t over yet!!It's not necessarily the gun but the shooter.
