Stop in for a cup of coffee

Db318 is going to need a couple of shop elfs for a bit. You are most fortunate to come out of that with just some bruising on the back. That just super suks. I am about to need to pull the Hemi out of the Demon (yet again) to do some finish fab work on the firewall. The pucker factor is always tight moving it in or out. Thing is a pig and quite top heavy. I have taken it in and out about a million times during this build. Scares the poop out of me every time.
PS ain't nuthin happening till I get some biscuits and gravy this morning!

yeah, I pulled dozens of engines and never had an issue. I always go get brand new bolts when I do. Always grade 8s. I don’t wanna risk my life or limbs or anything else to save 2 bucks lol. Never had one break before. I even fully extend all the legs and such to make the hoists and stands as stable as possible.

When that thing broke, the pendulum effect is what did it in, I was moving the hoist to the right just a bit and when it broke it swung out far and then come back, tipping everything.

So how bad did you break the Hemi?

It should have never broken.

Bolts used under clamping force are pretty tough.
Side loading without clamping,not good.
Horizontal grade 8 with a vertical chain link is a recipe for disaster.
Grade 5 will bend before it breaks, grade 8 just breaks.
Hard to determine what happened without seeing bolt.

So yesterday....This guy calls and wants to look at the Valiant. It I pouring down rain. I said I would meet him in town. So I start in and then see that I am out of gas. But I push on and to keep this short rolled into the Sheetz and it is done. I call the guy and say I did not make it to the meeting place so he comes to where I am. That thing would sit there and idle but when you put it in gear it would shut off. So after starting it 30-40 times and leaving the lights on the battery is now too weak to start it. I am sitting in traffic and it wouldn't get out of it's own way. We push it off to the side and I get a ride home. When it quit raining I went in with another battery and put a new gas filter on and she runs like a champ. What a selling moment it was. I called the guy and he liked it so much he wants to take it for a ride. So not all is lost....maybe

Bad. Once the Tylenol kicks in. I’ll go out and take pics. It’s got a big hole in the block. It’s toast. I’m just hoping I didn’t destroy the eagle heads on it.

It was fully tightened down , clamping the engine chain tightly to the block. I’ll get a pic when I get out there

Pretty much summed it up.
The clue that caught my attention was the length.
When we see the bolt we'll know more. Single shear is never as good as double shear but it should have been plenty for the job.

Ray went back to sleep for an hour and feel a lot better. I'll tell you though a couple cups of coffee gives you some weird *** dreams.
I only shot two of them this dream...

I don't have a hoist but what grade US made bolt is recommended??

Sounds like Murphy showed up

Well, looks like my chimney problem is finally solved. So...I need to stock up some firewood in the basement. Have plenty outside. I want to at least fill the stairway today. Maybe even stack some. Need to rearrange a bit to make room for another rack. The main stack area I built in with plywood, plus I have a couple of the metal brackets you just stick 2x4s in I set up next to it.

That's not a base that's a campus. Couldn't get over how quiet it was, and not a strip bar or pawn shop outside the gate. Whats happened??:D

The strip bar is probably replaced by a vape shop and maybe a lemon lot moved in instead of the pawn shop? What base are you talking about? We also stay at bases when we travel so just curious. Oh and Good Morning All!

Anyone recall how I said this concrete was the highest grade available and hadn’t cracked in 30 years? Well it didn’t crack or chip either when a 800 pound hemi slammed it

It's a good thing you didn't bang your head on it.... That would have cracked it... :poke:

Before yesterday I’d said grade 8s but...

Man you would think. I have heard argument for using grade 5, bend but don't break. Glad you came out of it in as good of shape as you did, sounds like it could have been worse, holy crap!

That's awsome. Did the drain lead outside?
