And to your question last night, if the key was left out of the timing gear, I think it would just spin. LOL.
I wonder if dampener would lock gear to crank? Isnt the key long so it fits gear and balancer? Easy enough to check, pull bolt and slide a pick down the groove.you can read from the begining, but 8 takes the cake.

Some balancers have marks 90 degrees but who knows what else is going on there. He admits he prefers idle at 1000 rpm 'cause it sounds better, and knows all about the effect of changing jets on a carterbrock. Hopefully others can see he's not one to be going to advice for on tuning.
