Hi Guys,
Was in the process of trying to swap my dart to a 3 speed floor shifter and finding out it aint gonna work. cut joggled jiggled repositoined and the dammed speedo cable is in the shifters was every time grrr. On the tailshafts I know the b/c bodies used one length and the a bodies another. Anybody happen to have the length measurement of the two? The one in my car looks to be a muncie 352 gear box but going after casting numbers today to find out for sure. The tailshaft in mine is about 15 inches long? Also there was a knock out on the floor board/trans hump about 4 inches around was that for the automatic or manual shifters?

thanks

We'll need a lot more info to figure out the problem. Year? model? engine size? trans model? Maybe a photo of the transmission? This a conversion from a column shift? Aftermarket shifter?

Agreed we need more information and pictures. Possibility of a pick up transmission? :worthles:

1970 dodge dart swinger factory /6 3 speed column shift, looks to be factory trans installed in it guessing it is a muncie have not got my hands on a castin number as of yet due to the layers of dirt and grease on the trans.. tried putting a spectre 3 speed floor shifter and was unsuccessful the bracket hits the body reinforcement for the floorboard when attempting to mount it on the tail shaft bolts, the tailshaft has no shifter mounting bosses on it what so ever. will get some pics in the morning. I may have got the column shifter working will know when linkages are back in in the morning. the 3 speed has a 15 inch tailhousing length.

thanks sean

Mount the tranny, measure from tailshaft to rear pinion flange and have yours cut. Or lengthened as the case may be. I had a new one made when I put in my Dana, and that was a pretty penny. I saved the old shaft just in case.

LOL that is the wrong part I am asking about but thanks. I am working on the floor shifter conversion for my 3 speed man trans in the car. was wondering what the b/c, truck, and a body manual transmission tail shaft lengths were not the driveshaft. looking at sourcing a swap that not neccesarily a body setup.

thanks

I know the b/c platform cars, trucks and a body platform cars had different lengths on the manual transmission tailhousings? I was needing to know the exact length of each of them? I am looking at possibly using one of the b body or truck transmissions in my car since they have a shifter mount point near the front of the tailhousing where it bolts onto the transmission. So that is why I was asking the length differences between the 3 different setups? So I will know if i need to modify the driveshaft in my car.

thanks

the closest place that has an a body manual 4 speed transmission near me is south dakota of all places about 800 miles lol. whereas the truck 4 speed and b/c body 4 speeds are fairly common in dallas.

Your trans is probably a 903.....top cover.....side shift. A real weak trans in my opinion. They were made for column shift 6cyl. cars only so trying to adapt them to floor shift is asking for trouble. If you want a good floor shift 3 speed trans, get a 230 model. They came behind 6's and 8's and have bosses for a factory shifter to mount and are heavy duty enough to handle some horsepower. Mopar did not use Muncie transmissions.....
those are GM trannies. You might also look into an 833 4 speed for a slant 6. A bit more money but also a very good transmission and about the same amount of work to convert over.

Hey Cudamark,
Thanks that is what I am looking at I have found numerous 833 4 speed here in dallas, again most of the ones here area from a b/c body or a truck not the a bodies. Why I was asking these questions :D

Thanks

Sean
