Transmission wires ??? Where do they go and function?

-
what year and what trans are we dealing with?

usually only thing to a trans is a neutral safety switch and back up light...

What year model do you have? Those "might be" the reverse lights connection for a 68 / earlier console shifter, but that's just a wild guess.

So year, model, transmission type, and column or floor shift?

I think that is the top end of the transmission wiring harness - the other end has a round plug that goes on the neutral safety switch (in 69 and up the NSS also runs the back up lights). The single wire terminal plugs on your start relay (for neutral safety) and the other one plugs onto a plug on the firewall (part of the engine harness from my recollection) and it runs the back up lights.
