yep.Election year!I've been sick also.I was leased in to them years ago.I had a blanket wrap trailer .Landstar said it was the slowest for pad wrap that they ever seen.2 years later the ressession hit .That topped it.

A Mopar M1 tunnel ram with a pair of 500 cfm Edelbrock carbs works pretty well on top of the Trick Flow heads. I think this combo would work great on the street. The Edelbrock carbs have a good idle circuit which really smooths out the engine. The long runners in the tunnel ram boost the torque in the mid-range.

I was thinking of doing a tunnel ram on my build in the future! Looks killer! How much torque did it pick up? Did the hp drop off?

Ooooooo, good words to hear considering I have a small block version awaiting it's time.

HP and torque are both up slightly from the Trick Flow intake and a 1050 carb. The tunnel ram makes a lot more torque down low so it would be a great combo for a street/strip type of car. The Edelbrock carbs work super well on a tunnel ram. These are 500 cfm carbs and they work okay. A pair of 600 cfm carbs would probably make a little more power on this engine.

I love it! Plus the wow factor of the twin 4bbls and velocity stacks is killer!! Thanksfor all your hard work and sharing your results!

I wonder what happens if you remove the stacks and drop those same air
filters right down on top of the carbs?

don`t look like they`ll fit on the carbs to me. probly hurt it a little anyway. every time I`ve used velocity stacks, they helped .

andy, would those covers hold up on the street? I remember u said u made them up for testing.

I'm sure they would work for a while. The polycarb might turn yellow from the heat after a year or so but then it could be replaced. Big issue is that there isn't a breather. So the cover needs to be redesigned for a breather or maybe run a breather out of the valley plate.

hi am a novice builder have been reading through all these post they are very informative thanks to all the different engine builders is great am looking at building 505 stroker in aus and have liked results use have been getting with different combos was just wondering on your opinions about the kit version with Harland sharp rockers are these any good? and would use recommend there kit + there hyd roller lifters or better off just buying heads and going with t@d or hughes rockers etc ?

cheers anthony

Thanks. If you go back to the Hot Rod website you'll see that the follow on article is now posted. The rocker arm test is in the Feb issue which is on the newstand now if you want a paper version. I still buy the paper version since I find it easier to read.

Not that I am recommending doing this but I was in a discussion elsewhere where it was suggested that bolting the Trick Flows on a mild street engine would result in soft performance except in the upper RPM ranges due to too large of port sizes. I completely disagree (we are not dealing with Max Wedge ports here). I am asking MRL, IQ52 and Andy F among others to comment on what to expect bolting the PP 240's on a 383 and a 440 that had stock shortblocks (in good condition, 10.25-1) along with headers, a Performer RPM intake, a 284 / 484 hyd flat tappet cam 750-800 carb and good ignition. Wouldn't the performance still be greatly enhances at all engine speeds? I don't think these heads would be overkill.....do you? Naturally the critics are promoting reworked stock heads, possibly bowl ported and lowering the C.R. to 9.25-1 for pump gas. Let's hear the experts throw in on the discussion. Thanks, JL

I've never had my hands on a set yet, but I have seen multiple independent tests that don't really impress me all that much. This particular build in the link is close to me and this guy tries real hard to make 600 hp show up on his dyno. I would love the chance to inspect a pair though. J.Rob

Well, I'm impressed with his results on a 48 year old shortblock that was rated at 375 HP stock. No mention was made of the type and size of the camshaft though. Whatever it is, it is evidently still streetable. Bolt on a set of OOTB RPM or 440 Source heads and see if he can even get within 50 HP of that.
