Turbo 383 in a A-body Barracuda

-
Wow!! Hotside is done!! I will have to do a little hammer & dollying to the lower radiator support to straighten out where I rolled the lip. Now I need to figure out how to mount the wastegate. I am going to put it into the merge just below the T6 flange.
Now I have a question,
I am screwed as to where I wanted to put it in the prior pics. Can I 90* off the flange/merge area or does the exhaust have to flow directly into the wastegate?

I don't think it matters. It is all under pressure and once the WG sees the set pressure you have it set at, it is supposed to open up! I had to 90* my Drivers Side.

That stripe looks pretty cool. I like the rear spoiler. My car has a homemade one that is similar. I think it makes the rear of the FB look mo better.

Sorry 'bout the jack. Can't wait to see this one done.

Here is where I want to put the 90,

Agreed, once it opens up the pressure will take care of the rest.
It looks like you are getting short on space, how are you going to run it from the wastegate back to the exhaust?

On another note, with your skills you can get that air cleaner on the other side of the radiator support, or the other side of the inner fender- no?

This thing is bad ***, ever since I got my turbo car my mindset has been that every car should have a turbo, but I don't recall thinking about putting a turbo on a big block- that has certainly changed.

Back under the right side header to the downpipe.

I may box it to the inner fender and use a plastic fender liner to keep the dust from it.

Quoting Starsky(Ben Stiller),
DO IT-DO IT-DO-IT!!

I have heard they prefer to have a more straight on flow then the 90 degree, but 90 will work. I would think you would have a more precise control with it on one of the bends.

Are you venting to atmosphere, or plumbing into down pipe?
What about underneath the crossover, at one of the bends?

Thats what I have read too!

I will run a 2" pipe under the right side header and into the downpipe. As far as the bottom bend, That will all be closed in with sheemetal. If I was to install it at the bottom the wastegate would be in the fenderwell in the elements and would be vented to atmosphere thru a lawnmower muffler maybe??
...

Wastegate found its spot!! Guess I will bring the dump over the bracket and back into the dp.. A few pics,

Just caught onto this build, but I'm impressed to say the least! Great work man!

Aside from the VHT and the header wrap, you may want to look into a turbo blanket to keep temps down under the hood and help keep heat energy inside the exhaust housing of the turbo. They're all over ebay for cheap and make a HUGE difference. Also, be careful with that header wrap when you put it on. It's mostly fiberglass and it'll make your hands and face itch like crazy and even get into your nose and throat if you breathe it in-- nasty stuff!

Anyway... subscribed!

Well,
I checked status on my Eagle rods and this is the crap I hear.

I just spoke with Eagle again, they are saying its going to be 90-110 days until those are ready to ship. The reason being they only make "enough" for a year since they are not in high demand, and at this point they are sold out and the next batch will be ready in the 100 days or so.

This really has me BENT!!!!!!!!!!!ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!

Cool, thanks!!

I have kinda blown my budget but will get a blanket for the exhaust housing before it hits the street. This Titanium stuff doesn't have the glass persay. It is really soft and easy to work with. Doesn't even need to be soaked before installation.

I just wish I could get the engine assembled.

Well, its official!!

Earlier this week it was decided by Eagles Mangement that this rod is "DISCONTINUED"

Sad to say but it seems to be true. Now all I can get is "Store" credit with my money!

O"yeah,
Can't get the $1000 I spent on the pistons either! Don't know about ya'll but $1000 ain't pocket change in my world.

Does Scat make a set of Rods for it?? What block is it a 400??

A fellow TTF member actually found an auction with 2 sets on ebay. I emailed the guy and he said he had 1 set left. SOOOOOOOOOOLD!!! I bought them after he confirmed he had them in his hands.

I hope THMotorsports refunds me for the ones I paid for in November.

I feel better now!:-D

I have gotten some work done!

Got the sump welded in the new tank and some lines run but waiting on fittings. Brakes are done and bled. I tried some 30"x9" Mickeys, they won't fit so I will need to get 28". Had to send the intercooler out to cut the right tank off and flip it to the bottom and the inlet pipe that goes to the bonnett is getting the flange for the BOV put welded on. 3.55's are in the 8 3/4 and the reaend has been put back into the car with the "Carl-Traks" and polyurethane bushings. Will try to get some pics posted soon.

My laptop crashed Friday so I am on the Wifes and she is not too happy about that!! LoL!:toothy10:

Some pics of progress. Intercooler upper bracket fabbed ready to paint. REAL TIGHT but no touchy anywhere. Work'n on the lower bracket now. Had to enlarge the hole in the radiator support a bit. Will hammer & dolly around the hole to straighten it up before repainting. Also got the sump in and tank mounted. Now gotta figure out where the fuel pump and filter go. Since the hotside is on the passenger side I will run it up the driverside.

I forgot to mention I did swap the left and right spindles and moved the calipers to the rear. No problems with the sway-bar now. Front-end is completed as well as the rear.

RODS ARE HERE!! Now off to the machinist. Hopefully this won't take long and I can assemble the engine!

Got a call from the machinist Friday telling me my 400 was done. Went Saturday to pick it up and after it was loaded in the truck I noticed that the stock main bolts were in it?? Of course the owner of the machine shop was in Dallas racing so no one to gripe at. After I tore the bag open then is when I seen that the mains had NOT been line-honed nor was my girdle fitted. S^O^B!!!! :flame:

I am speechless!! :shout: Going on 5 months at the machinist!! WTF!
