Update On Laysons Problem

-
Just to add my 2 cents worth. I've dealt with Year one for several years, I don't buy alot but everytime I do, I get nothing but the best service out of them. I ordered a windshield gasket for my 69 Dart on Monday 10-15-07 It arrived at my house 10-18-07. Stick with the companies that work!!

Does Year 1 carry both the upper & lower trunk trim for a `68 Barracuda?

THAT'S why I dealt with Laysons..... They have a few items you can't get ANYWHERE else. Those trunk trim pieces are BEAUTIFUL! I know they're made in some foreign sweatshop and not by Layson's... but they are being MADE! I bought a set (through Rick Keesler) for $575. All-Trim wanted $1,000. And that's for restored, flimsy original aluminum pieces. Layon's are stainless steel and will out-live the sheet metal. I use Year 1 for the common stuff EVERYBODY catalogs, such as my headliner, wiring harnesses, under hood clip and bumper kits, etc. Year 1 got a few grand from me during my resto. Layson's less than $700. My customer service experience was great from the BOTH of them.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Contact Rick for anything you MUST buy from Layson's. And as for Dave, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before he get's whacked with a gym sock full of spark plugs at a show someday....:thumrigh:

i almost did that at spring fling...........:toothy3::laughing:

I've never dealt with Laysons so can't post my good or bad experience. I do have a perspective to share so...
Lets say I'm Dave Layson. I have sample parts on hand, capital to invest, etc..., I sense a need for a-body console mounting brackets and shifter stand. I can produce and market them in a kit including a locating templete.
Now to produce 6 coppies costs me *** while producing 100 costs only xx. How in the heck do I determine how much demand their is for such an item and what Joe Customer is willing to pay for it ?!?!?!
Here is an idea , I'll place this item in my catalog and feel the market. First 2 orderers are SOL. Aint gonna happen.
I'll agree this is a somewhat shady way to do business but it works and there just aint a better way.
I'm not Dave Layson but I do have the formentioned item in development. I've made initial investments to produce 6 and will make it available Jan. 2008
Guess what.... my 7th customer will be SOL which sux too.

I wasn't aware they sold them, but more than likely, it's the same piece Laysons sells. Laysons was the first to offer `68 Barracuda taillight lenses, but now they are available from several vendors. I bought mine from BE&A and they were about $40 cheaper than Laysons, but again, I'm willing to bet it's the same supplier. Why Year 1 trim is more expensive and yet BE&A lenses are cheaper for the same part is one of those marketing enigmas I guess.....

All I know is I STILL paid almost $1,500 for shiney crap to hang off the back of my car....between the trim, lenses, tail light housings, emblems, bumpers.....

That's almost what I paid for the whole car 9 yrs. ago! :hmph:
