Using mustang rotors for 4.5" bc

-
I'm suprised nobody has simply manufactured a mopar kh rotor with the bbp.

Just out of curiosity couldn't you just have the hubs and rotors drilled to 5x4.5 and put new studs in, seems simpler, ( I did not read all 11 pages so pardon if it was already addressed)

I as well did not read all 11 pages. but I do have a set of stock discs that have been massaged to be 4.5" bolt pattern. My first look through the shop has produced zero results. A clean will be necessary, but Ill keep looking if this is pertinent to the conversation.

I'd be very interested. I'm planning on using KH brakes on my 1970 Dart, have everything from spindles, calipers, pads brackets, and rotors.Upgrading the diff to a D60 with BBP axles so it makes sense to find a method to change the front discs to BBP as well. These rotors are in great shape and I'd love to re use them.

I have KH on my ragtop so I have the original BP. If I was you I would sell the KH set up and buy the (73 -76?) dart disc brakes. You would probably break even or even make some money if you sold the KH parts individually Hubs are harder to come by as well as Calipers JMO

Ill look a little harder for them. Sun i will be there. They might be buried under Heidis mach. I local old timer hot rod friend sold em to me. He is putting together a 340 fastback and actually went back to drums. Great guy. One of those people that everyone should have.

I too wanted to keep my factory kh front disc set up but it was the Year One Rallye wheels and tire choice I made, and the stance changes I planned, that made bbp mandatory. I did have the factory rotors drilled for 5x4.5, but only for mocking up wheels, one look at the 2 pc. design and you'll see why re- drilling is not a safe/viable option. Then of course this spiraled into 2" drop spindle, tubular LCA, UCA, Hotchkiss Sway...

If I could find a bbp setup locally then I'd probably do it. Shipping into Canada will kill any good deals from the US. Places like Pirate Jacks etc would be even more. I do want to stick with a factory brake system. Aftermarket stuff is even more money, not worth it imo.

I haven't forgot. Been busier than a one legged man in an *** kicking contest.

anyone looked at austrlian rotors
post 71 they were 4.5 inch PCD for 68 69 and half of 1970 they were 4 inch
designed to work with 1 piston Kelsey hayse pinand bush bracket sliders or Girling Girlcok "floating" bracket sliders much like the post 73 US calipers
(you can't mix n match calipers and brackets across continets ive tried.)

these fit a mopar hub with 4.5inch stud PCD
what i can't tell you is if the Austrlian Hub and its bearings and seals fit a US stub axle.

and if usuing a fixed rather than floating caliper ask about rotor offset
or check bendix aussie website for catalogue with dimensions

aussie cars were almost universally shod with 14 inch steel wheels unless it was a Pacer or an R/T in which case alloys, with even less caliper space

they do 9 and 10 inch drums as well 4.5 inch PCD post 71, 4 inch pre 71
handy for converted early 6 cylinder A body i would guess.

i haven't tired any of it this is based on having an aussie car...

EBC bendix DBA etc i'm sure you must have agents for them in the US
in which case an order and a LONG wait might get you what you need without resorting to milling and turning.....
if you like ford stuff aussie Ford falcon rotor might get you closer...

they can be drilled for 4 1/2 bolt pattern, cut off original studs flush then drill between them for new pattern. the back side is flat and parael to front face. i have done a few of these and have not had any problems/ also, i can remove larger studs, press out the original studs install new studs back to the smaller bolt pattern. mine have been on a race car for 45 years. just food for thought

So there's conflicting opinions regarding this. Any pics?

I would like to know if anyone else has had success drilling the rotors for 5x4.5 since there seems to be controversy. Pictures front and rear would be great also. I have 1” thick adapters(5x4->5x4.5) ready to go, but they make me nervous.

I had also heard controversy, that there wasn't enough meat to be absolutely safe

So did you have the original rotors drilled also and just re-use them? Also, it looks like you used screw-in studs, correct? Sorry if these seem like stupid questions, but this seems like the absolute simplest solution to what is typically a somewhat expensive, involved process. What kind of racing do you do?
I picked these up from a buddy who went to drums. He is the real deal old guy drag racer. Very involved in the sport. I have no clue how it was done. I was at his place visiting, he showed me the car, and said for a song I could have the K/H setup. I sang. I can take a closer look at them.

Thanks for the response, I actually meant to ask Perfacar, my bad. Why didn't you use them?

This is brilliant, if it works I think the stock brakes work fine! So did you have the original rotors drilled also and just re-use them? What kind of racing do you do?

Hi,

I do not remember was this talked about but is this also an option (similar as mustang rotors):

RAYBESTOS 6042R

These fit to 76 Ford Granada.
Simply I have a cheap option locally.
