Reached new levels of stupidity.

These people that manage the postal service have to be complete idiots.

Agreed. Read this article if you want to see some real stupidity. Instead of trying to make it better, they are purposely making their service worse!
Without telling you, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has slowed down the mail. New service standards went into effect on Jan. 5, ending overnight delivery of local first-class mail. The slower delivery schedules mean that the public will now see a delay in the delivery of bill payments, greeting cards, medicines, Netflix DVDs, ballots, newspapers and checks. You don't want to get me started. We are probably pissed off about the same thing.

Nope, I have a whole new level now. Not just the one we been dealing with.

I bought some parts here, and gave my shipping addy for Fed Ex. The items inadvertently got sent USPS. So of course it has my home address, not my mailing address.

Well, the seller did his part and tried to correct it, so I thank him for that. I go get my mail today, and have a notice that the package will be sent back.

Ironically, they know WHERE to put the notice but can't deliver the package, WTF can't they just put the package in the same place, AT MY POST OFFICE. :banghead:

I was told it will be sent back. So it makes it all the way from Colorado to within 12 miles of my post office, instead of just bringing it out to the post office where I know I would get it, they are going to send it back and it will have to be re-shipped.

IDIOTS I tell ya.

you did get my ignition box right ?

that sounds messy for sure

Bruce the USPS is now taking all the mail from my side of the state and hauling it to GR to be sorted and sent. If I mail a letter to someone in the next town it goes to GR first then back. They're going to be out of business soon.
Dan

that sounds a little like a item a bought from Cali oddly enough they seam to think via Hawaii is the best way to get to Connecticut parcel had a nice 3 day lay over there before making it to PA then CT took near 10 days to get here.

Oh yeah.

It's just been in the last few weeks they have really dumbed down.

I just got off the phone with Consumer Affairs, and they were to say the least, dumbfounded as to why a package would be sent back without trying to deliver it.

I'm still awe struck that they can print out a notice and get IT into my PO Box, yet they can't/won't do the same thing for a package. :banghead:

LOL, yeah, I know. The company I work for has a mail division and we haul it.

Just wait until the federal government is in full charge of all aspects of your health care.

They don't deliver anything that requires a signature to me. They just put an orange card in the mailbox and make me go get it at the post office, instead of get out of their mail truck and knock on the door like they are SUPPOSED TO.... :banghead:

I once waited all day for a package that required a signature. Nobody knocked on my door, but when I finally went to the mail box at 5 PM, the package was in there... I didn't sign for it. I called the post office and asked who signed for it, the signature was from my neighbor who was dead for 6 years.... #-o

I now have three packages with the USPS missing. They were delivered. To the wrong zip code, because the carrier mis typed the delivering zip code.

Here is the last explanation I got that nearly blew the top of my head off. Are yall ready for this?

"Mr. Merritt, when a package is delivered to the wrong address, we rely on the integrity of the recipient to deliver it to the correct address."

Last I checked, the Post Office gets paid to deliver it to the correct address. When UPS or FEDEX mis delivers a package, they will send the driver back out and find it, but then, it is very rare they ever mis deliver. Ever.

The USPS has a carrier in my neighborhood every single day delivering things, yet refuses to try and find my packages that they mis delivered.

It is clearly evident why the post office loses so much money every year. No one wants to do their job.

That,s a big part of the problem. The other issues, is management. A friend of mine is a Postmaster and he tells me that one thing causes him more headaches than one can imagine.

I got consumer affairs involved in this newest fiasco, the one thing that I hear from Joe and Carolyn, another Postmaster acquaintance is, NO ONE wants consumer affairs paying them a visit.

They were absolutely floored that the dingbats in Jackson want to send the package back instead of bringing it to my local PO to deliver it.

Consumer affairs is now involved on your package.

I spent my last 30 years working for a company that is very close to the USPS. Most of you see evidence on my company or possibly a competitor 6 days a week. I have seen major changes in the USPS over the years.

When it comes to letters addressed to a local resident being routed via some central sorting center? That is easy. Some years back equipment was designed to read both hand written and typed or computer based printed addresses. It is call OCR, (optical character reader ) This new technology basically eliminated the sorting of mail at a local level as these machines can read and route letters at a rate of 10K to 20K an hour. It was economically not feasible to employ mail sorters at the local Post Offices. Thus even though it would seem odd that a letter that is local gets routed sometime hundreds of miles away, it is logical when one considers the overall mix of mail processed today. Letter mail is decreasing. Flat and package mail is increasing. So when you hand address a letter to Aunt Sue that lives three blocks over, unless your writing is absolutely atrocious, it is likely that once it is in the system no human hands touch it until it gets delivered.

The other big concern is cost. Some ask why not let the USPS become private like other carriers UPS / FEDEX / Etc. But these other carries do not have low cost letter solutions and therein lies the problem Letter mail is decreasing as more and more of us use email to communicate with family and electronically pay our bills. So the volume of letter mail is increasingly being made up by advertisement mail. Mail that is provided at a discounted rate. In general letter mail is not profitable. Especially when one considers rural delivery. Even the package carriers charge a premium for some areas of the country and in some cases they may not even deliver to them. There are even some programs like FEDEX post to deal with some of these issues. FedEx Post is a service where FedEx gets the package, but the USPS delivers it. There is a UPS program like this as well.

Bottom line. Letter mail is not profitable and that remains the stumbling block for the USPS becoming a private for profit corporation. Now if letter mail could be rated based on zipcode and rural factors, like flat and package services, then the game changes.

The USPS is messed up no doubt. But what if there was no USPS? Who is going to take up the letter based mail? Who would be willing to pay what FedEx or UPS charge for an overnight or even a 2nd day letter to send a thank you card to Aunt Sue?

Plus, USPS has to deliver mail everywhere all over the country. If it costs too much for the private companies to go far out of their way, they sign it over to USPS to do the last part of the delivery.

I've got to say, the USPS has their stuff together in the NE, its always fast and reliable.

I have had many, many letters delivered by USP and FEDEX both. It's not like they cannot do it.
