W2 heads on a 318

First I like the sound of your stroker, I'm build something similar.
Now I'm no expert or engine builder but I do have seat of your pants experience on something like what you want to do. As for putting the w2's on the 318 why not if you have all the parts to do it. I Swapped out my 2.02 x heads years ago for Econo w2's with a single plane intake on a low compression 340 with a .557 purple shaft cam and just recently swapped back to some 2.05 x heads with an air gap intake everything else the same and couldn't be happier I did it. The car felt very soft with the w2's. I'm sure my biggest problem was lack of compression, cylinder pressure of 130.
Get your cylinder pressure up or you could have a turd like mine was.

This is the classic example of an engine with way more cam timing that it needed. I run less seat to seat, more at .050 (but not by much) on Pcar heads and that is to shift at 6800-7000. In fact that cam has 15 degrees more seat timing and 3 degrees LESS at .050 than the cam I run. Just too much timing.

Could have been 20 degrees less seat timing and the W-2 engine would kill the Pcar headed deal.

I think you just said I picked the wrong camshaft and I'd agree. When I put the engine together there wasn't Internet or a great site like this to help a young guy out. The cam did deliver a very aggressive sound. Isn't that what's really important, lol

It wasn't meant to be a critical statement, but used as a great example of using too much cam for displacement/cylinder head/RPM. I'm a big cam guy, but I'm also a correct cam guy. You just happened to post a great example of it.

And yes, I love an agreessive sound.

My ultimate point is you didn't lack bottom end power because the head was too big, but the cam timing was as good as it could have been. That's my point.

Didn't take it as critical, you actually hit on what I already knew. I like the idea of adding more compression than running a smaller cam but I'm not known for having a "fast" car. I'm trying to correct that though.

Happy correcting !!!
This is where the fun begins !!!!
