W2 or R/T heads?

-
Yes, it is a M1 single plane. We will be running it with the water passages blocked so as not to heat the incoming charge.

The rest of the build is Molnar crank and rods with Icon forged pistons. Brian worked the heads a little and gasket matched the intake. Rockers are Jesel 1.7:1 and Jim at Racer Brown ground a custom solid roller cam. TTI headers will go into a full 3" exhaust.

Did someone say W2 magnum? How was I not paged?

I have both sets of heads. The W2 is a race head plain and simple. The R/T is an updated street replacement type head. They are (as always in my opinion) in different categories and used in different situations. I don’t think the R/T gets to 550-600 naturally aspirated without serious work and a LOT of camshaft. The W2 gets there fairly easily, at the cost of more expensive, harder to find valve train gear. Pick your poison really. Make sure you research how to oil the W2 on a magnum if that’s the route you take.

100%! Make sure your rockers are able to be oiled through if need be or not. The option is excellent to have used or not.

cam specs?

Are headers an "issue" with W2's? Or are there sets you can still buy new?
You can buy some “things”. TTi as said above, has w2 headers, hedman has flanges with stubs to make a set. And of course lots floating around online for purchase. Or you can go the route I did and buy Chevy headers and cut the flanges off if they don’t need to fit a specific car.

To be clear, I'm not looking at a W2 build. They have always had a special draw for me and I would love to do one someday, but I doubt it will happen for various different reasons.

I was just curious about headers.

Those guys are actually local to me. :)
I have a large cnc plasma and I cut my own. I still have the file and a few extras, if you need a set of flanges let me know. I’ll either give you a set I already have cut or cut some more. These are 3/8 mild steel.

Booooooooooo I thought you were on the W2 train.

Would it help if I said I was on the train "emotionally"?

There was a guy at the Monroe Swap Meet last year with a bare set of heads, I don't remember the price but it seemed too high to me. But seeing stuff like that and buying it when I see it (and the price is right) would go a long ways towards a W2 build. To contrast that, he had a set of A-Body sport mirrors that I passed on because the $200 could go further getting my G3 swapped car on the road rather than making it look pretty. So whatever the cost of the W2's were, it was money better spent on my current project instead of a "someday" one.

I wish I could be one of those guys that stock piles stuff and has all kinds of builds in the works. But instead I am one that needs to put my limited funds towards the current project in the hope that it comes off the jack stands that much sooner.

It’s better to stay focused

Yeah its funny. I have two W2 engines but keep thinking about building a third. Really want to put closed chambered '2s on my 318 block. Going to have to get motivated and look the block over this spring. Nice '67 block I hope.

Nice cam specs. Sorry, who’s cam is that? Ground by???
That ought to get the W2’s breathing rather well. That’s a head that likes a lot of lift.
healthy camshaft. should make some steam.
No doubt!
