Weight loss and perseverance

I thought I would share an image I created as inspiration for myself. It is pasted in my weight loss log.

I am slowly but steadily carving myself out of the fat suit I have been building and wearing for the past 25 years...

1st off, great job Ddaddy! I started my journey for all of the same reasons. The main contributor to my fatness was the beer, pizza, and mexican food.....did I mention beer? Lol. I chose to go the ketogenic route for my weight loss adventure.

I started this whole new way of eating on 6/27/16 at 282 lbs. On 7/30/16 I weighed in at 258 lbs. I was hooked after those kind of results. Not to mention that the food you can eat is almost all savory and delicious. Today, almost 3 yrs later I'm at 185lbs, and I've kept it off by eating a low carb maintenance diet.

I wish you continued success, and I love the fact you were able to keep booze on your meal plan. I had to obstain completely for 2 yrs :( !

Summer 2017 I said this is stupid, and proposed to a friend, for the next twelve weeks let's lose weight. Set a goal, weigh 1x/wk at a consistent time, make a graph with the end goal, and plot your progress each week. It was fun having that index card, it really helped. Cut out all "white" foods (sugar, bread, potatoes) and drank only water, black coffee/tea. Ate healthy snacks throughout the day. Except for Sundays when I could eat anything. It helped knowing each week I could do that. Also I rode my bike every day and walked extra by parking my car far away wherever I went. One day I thought, why not run, you can run instead of walk to and from the car and it was surprisingly fun. Goal was 20 lb but I ended up losing 25. I'm a small guy so that's a lot. I gained back 8 lb and have settled there. Lower blood pressure numbers and it's a good feeling when your doctor looks at your chart and smiles. By the way my friend has kept the weight off too.

That's great, David. Real proud of you man. I am planning on something similar myself soon.

Today I decided to go back and look through my medical records to determine what my weight was over the past 30 years. So far, I have turned my weigh clock back about 18 years. It was a interesting experience to go back and think about where I was during those times and how I felt physically. Kinda like a trip back in time.

It’s been 2 weeks since my last weight update and as of today, I am now now down 43 lbs.

Woohoo!

Since that 43 lbs lost is equal to 6 gallons of body fat, I created this to help me wrap my head around it...

So I went little further to try to wrap my head around what 150,500 calories means.

150,500 calories equals:

1200 boneless chicken breasts (300 lbs)
or
300 8 oz steaks (150 lbs)
or
600 baked potatoes with butter (300 lbs potatoes, 36 lbs butter)
or
300 1/4 lb cheese burgers
or
1075 cans of soda pop (101 gals)
or
2150 eggs (180 dozen)
or
1882 slices of bread (75 loaves)
or
1456 glasses of milk (92 gals)
or
332 slices of cheese pizza (80 lbs)
or
375 orders of French fries (127 lbs)
or
981 serving of ice cream (42 gals)
or
912 cans/bottles of beer (11 kegs, 84 gals)

Well, we know that ain't the one you skipped! :poke:LOL
Well, maybe a few of them...:D

Actually, I drink about 1/3 less than I did a year ago. One of the advantages of losing weight, it takes less beer to get to the same comfortable cruising altitude.

I did a bunch of research into how calorie burn rate changes with body weight. The simple rule of thumb is that it reduces by 10% with each 25 lbs lost.

For example, if you need 3500 calories per day to stay even at 300 lbs then you only need 3150 calories per day to stay even at 275 lbs...and only 2800 per day at 250 lbs.

What this also means is that the daily caloric difference being used to achieve weight loss needs to be adjusted accordingly in order to keep losing weight.

This is why I have been using my weight as part of my calculations to regularly adjust the caloric difference as I go.

For me, my starting point was 3800 calories per day to stay even based on my activity level, so I reduced my intake to 3500 calories per day. Now I am at about 3100 calories per day to stay even and my caloric intake goal is down to 2800 calories per day.

But to give it an extra kick that I can sustain down to another 50 lbs lost, I changed my caloric intake to 2500 calories per day 2 weeks ago. I will adjust again as I get to that weight level.

So the lighter you are, the less calories it takes to remain there? Interesting. Great job, btw. You suck. LOL

I'm gonna join in on this one I know I'm a little late to the party lol but here's my story.
About 3 years ago in January 2016 I got sick just a cold but I couldn't get rid of it so I decided to go to the dr and get some antibiotics or whatever. Well during the exam they weight me I have never (had) never worried about my weight or anything i always ate when I was hungry and said the hell with it. I knew I had put on some weight since my early 20s but i figured I'm married with 3 kids and 31 years old I'm not trying to impress anyone so screw it I'm gonna be happy and eat what i want. Well on this trip to the dr I weighed 278lbs I'm around 6 ft tall (5-11-1/2ish lol ) I was blew away how much I weighed. Now just for reference my nickname was wormy (in my early 20s) because I was so skinny around 180lbs I wrestled @ 171 in high school. So from 2002 to 2016 I had gained 100+ pounds I was blew away. I went home and told my wife I have to do something and do it now! I was determined to make a change.
So I started eating better no junk foods no pop ,candy, honey buns, donuts ,ice cream, etc (you know all the good stuff) I started doing perfect pushups and resistance workouts. I did really well at it. I got down to my goal weight of 220 in about 7 months.
Unfortunately that is not the happy ending.
After I got my goal weight I started having cheat days and I upped my calorie intake to maintain. And started having a pop here and there. Then that turned into more more. Then next thing I know my cheat day turned into a cheat month then a year etc ( you get the point) well sadly it took me 2 years to undo all the hard work I put in! It took me a year to lose it and now 2 years later I am 17 pounds away from my original weight. :BangHead:
I'm at 260.
So last week exactly (7 days ago) I decided I'm getting back on the diet and this time no cheats I don't care what anyone says that's a horrible idea (for me anyway because I obviously lack self control)
In 7 days of not drinking any pop no candy or junk food and a 2000 calorie diet I am weighing 256 today I will find some picks of before and after.

Ok here are some pics the first pic on the left is on Christmas day 2015 I was around 280lbs! The one besides it was in April 2016 with the same shirt on around 250ish (I'm guessing) the last pic (in the orange) was my smallest around 220. I want to get back there. And I want my hair back I can't believe that I cut it!!! :BangHead::BangHead::bs_flag::wtf:was I thinking! Lol

My wife took a pic of me today in a new t-shirt I designed. I looked at it and realized how much I have changed since losing all this weight.

Here I was 2 years ago...

I almost can’t believe the difference...and I’m only halfway to my goal.

Wow bud that is awesome keep up the good work! I haven't weighed this week but last week I was down 4 pounds in 7 days I know with anything its gonna tip back and forth for a while but I'm happy with that number for week one.

Well, it’s the end of the month and it has been a good one. I lost 4 lbs this month and I am now down 45 lbs.

It has been about 3 months since I ordered a pizza (mainly due to a cracked tooth issue) but tonight it’s back! XL white veggie with extras added. I barely had time to get a pic before the wife dug into it!

Like I said, everything is still on the menu.

It has been 2 weeks since I last updated my progress. I lost another 2 lbs making the total lost now 47 lbs.

Carrying that amount of weight is equal to having this strapped to my body 24/7...

I also updated my chart and as of today, I have erased 20 years of weight gain in 18 months.

I am also going to need to buy another belt soon, LOL. I bought this one 6 months ago after shrinking out of the old one and have lost another 4” off my waist since then.
