Drove by Car for sale on the side of the road the other day. Says it runs. Looks like either a 65 or 66 Dodge Dart. Opened the hood and the hood latch is missing but there is a 273 2bbl. Grill is destroyed. Interior is rough but all there.

Drum brakes? No more then one thousand dollars IMO. Rust?

I am sure it is drum brakes. As far as rust. I will need a better look. In SoCal deserts we are fortunate that rust is not usually much of a problem.

$500, PM for my address to send my appraisal fee. Just wait till they call me to be on the new TV reality car flick Sticker Shock!!!!! LOL!!!

If it runs and restorable to at least drive
it around town safely.and has most parts complete $1500 all day

He is asking 2500. Seems a little steep but I haven’t bought many running project cars in the last 10 years or so. Wasn’t sure if that was going rate or what.

You have to be very careful with those California “Not-much-rust” cars. Inspect everything carefully or you might find yourself in deeper that you thought. Just like this California car...

It’s all rebuilt now and the rust is gone...and it sits in my driveway now courtesy of @Mopar Tim. But he put a helluva a lot of time and money into getting it that way.

I agree it is definitely something to watch out for but it is not out of the question to find a car this age and this condition with minimal surface rust. Coastal cars seem to get a lot more rust than desert cars for obvious reasons. I wouldn’t make an offer with out first going over the car. The car would be for my wife. I offered her my 67 Dart but she says it is my car and wants one that I haven’t owned longer than I have been with her lol.

Thats a 66. Im afraid he would have to pay me to haul it away. :(

66 front fender. Need to see the rear. Looks a little rough. Depending on the rest of the car a thousand would be a bargain. It would part out for 2 times that. At least.

My main concern when looking at car I may be interested in is RUST first and second RUST! Check the frame rails, floors, trunk, drop offs, Cowl, firewall , Drip edge, roof, quarters, etc. Rust repair work, paint and body work is where you will spend or save the most money in your project.

Ca. is like Tx. All kinds of climate, rainfall, humidities!!!!! I have bought cars out of Mn, years back with almost NO rust! They were never driven in the salt winter roads ever!!!!! Over the decades I have only found a couple of rust free cars after taking them down to bare metal.
Any car50 years old will have at least some pin hole rust somewhere that needs cut out!!

My rule of thumb when buying/selling is have a price that suits my wallet, my piece of mind, and the "blue book" in my head! LOL

65 has fake vents on the door....this car sure looks like a 66.

As far as rust goes, it may be sitting in CA. now, but it may have spent much of its life in a rust belt state.

The white 66 @Ddaddy posted was purchased original in LA, and was bought by me in Costa Mesa. Rust free? Not so much. It spent most of its life in Seattle! Under pine trees. Hence all the cowl rot. You never know what you are getting rust wise.

I looked at it closer today. Very little rust at least in common areas. It is a 66 but the owner thinks it is a 65. It will need minimum new bumpers, hood and front fenders not to mention missing. GT trim on the left front fender. It is a GT. It has a 727 torqueflight. 7 1/4 rear diff. My opinion is it could be a really cool car if someone wanted to just repair it and make it a driver. To restore it will be expensive and not worth the price unless you had some sentimental reason for loving the car. I am probably going to pass. Talked to someone else there looking at it and said owner was pretty solid on the price. Either wait him out or let someone else get it.

I agree, let it sit and let the owner realize it is for what it is, a pig without any lipstick..... yet. Lipstick gets expensive real quick. Yet $500 car most people will want at least $1000 for or more!

Honestly I feel the car is probably worth 1500 mainly due to it being fairly complete. If he were to clean it up and peal off the bent up grill he could probably sell it easier. The interior actually looks really good except for the headliner. Seats are complete with no rips. Carpet doesn’t have any holes in it. Door panels look ok. Clean it up. Put the hubcaps back on , air cleaner and hook everything up with a battery the car will look better

But just the grill will set you back 200 to 500 alone. For driver quality. 1000.00 is as high as I would go. I just did a 66, you will have loads of money into it.

That car looks to be 1k car tops for me, since I paid $1025.00 for this and it came with new black seat skins(not correct for the gt) and black top which I'm not going to use.
