What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Chasing that weird lack of PV enrichment causing it to run lean at moderate throttle on the primaries. Today I checked all the passages on the primary side of my carb... they are open. No sign of debris anywhere. I did replace the well-used (blue) gasket to the main body, but kept the 7.5 PV which operates smoothly and has an intact diaphragm.
I also put the fuel line to the carb in a 1 gallon milk jug, turned on the pump and counted to 10. There was about 2.5" of gas in the jug. WIth the fuel line hooked back up, the primary bowl was full before I could get out of the seat and look at the sight glass.
Finally I ran a line to the cowl and duct-taped a 2-5/8" fuel pressure gauge since I had all the parts except a mounting cup... Fuel pressure is 5 psi, engine off or idling. It's been pouring rain off & on all day, so I haven't tried it on the road (2.5 miles of mud to get to the pavement anyway).
If it's not a fuel delivery problem, I'll change the PV (I have an 8.5 and a 6.5) and see if that helps. Then I have to start looking for zebras (maybe my Wagner tunable PCV valve is doing something weird).
I'm definitely not a holly expert, I ran Carter's for 30 years but have been running Holleys for the last few I would be looking at the primary circuit and accelerator pump possibly. Good luck

thanks... I put in an 8.5 and it really opens around 7... the alleged 7.5 was just too late-opening. I need to make or buy an adapter so I can test PV's for accuracy.
Carters are just as mysterious to me as Holleys are to some ;)

Washed, polished, and waxed her. I also put brand new side marker lenses in. Still debating on if I want to replace the bezels with new ones.

I pulled the blower motor so I could try and clean out the A/C box. Good thing I did, there was a nest of insulation stuck in the fan. With the motor out I fished around with my vacuum hose and picked up a fair bit of junk.

I never expected sparkplug wires to be such a pain in you know what to assemble. Instructions say to use a DROP of their slick stuff to assemble.
Well I had to slather it on wire and put lots inside boots.
MSD 8.5mm wire.

I think it looks good though.
Half done.

I hated to throw wire away, but its cut to fit.

I'm with ya. I have a love hate relationship with "make your own" wires.
I let them beat me and bought some Taylor "ready made". About half are too long, though.

Went thru and fixed the valve cover and header leaks, degreased and washed it. Then drove 70 mile round trip to a local car show. All is good for MITP..!!

Was diligently continuing the work reassmbling the 71 when my wife said to stop and let's go for a ride in the 72. So I did what any strong stubborn husband would do and said "Sure darling, where would you like to go?"

Got the 72 out of its winter nap, wiped it down, and off we went to get gas in it as the fuel cell looked pretty empty. Drove the 3 miles to the gas station, got out, and....oops, realized I had forgotten my wallet! "No tickee, no laundry" so drove back home gingerly to fetch it. Back we went and made it back again to the gas station!

Then ran a few errands and made some CO2! Just a joy to drive this old heap. Stopped and snapped a couple pics too.

You could have stopped & brought me a Snow Cone. :poke:

I'm fabricating some body caster stands so I can get the baby off the rotisserie (after a mere ....oh, 20 years or so). It seems like such a small step, but now I'll be able to point at it and show the next dumbass that asks me if I've done anything to it. It irritates the crap out of me when someone who doesn't know squat about what I'm putting into this takes a look and doesn't see a finished car, then says that it looks just the same as it did the last time he/she was here.:BangHead:

Anyone that has ever put one of these cars together knows the PAINSTAKING work it is!! My wife says she now understands why us guys stare at other people's car engines at shows knowing the many hours they put into each little nut and bolt to get it to that stage.

Keep at it...one step at a time...it'll be great!

Rolled it out of the garage, washed it (the effect of driving on our dirt roads after heavy rain was predictable), started it up and drove it back in before the birds crapped on it again!

At last the old 37 is done, the engine is rebuilt and its back in the car,the plan was to take for a drive today but its raining like cracy
