What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Looking sharp!

What size tires you running on the rear? They looked quite ‘sucked in’ under the rear quarter panels.
Thanks ! They are 215 70R 14 on all 4 corners.

Got the rear sway bar ironed out on Vixen and test drove her today. She's good to go now.

Pulled out of driveway today first time moving on its own Since 2007
Changed heater core, changed carburetor, fixed all wiring started the beast after 2007- 2020 picked up working on the duster again sitting in garage. At that time I did floors/quarters, trunk, fenders, bumpers, grill. It’s running will drive for first time since 2007 this weekend fingers crossed. Waiting on new gas tank and sending unit.

No car work. I fixed and cleaned my bicycles. After a 15 mile ride, while waiting for a lumber delivery for my deck job, I looked for parts for a B body 8.75 transplant for my 72 Demon project.

I wasn't happy with the gauge orientation in the avatar but that's what was in it when I bought it as a roller in 2019. So when I wired the car I just left it as is and ran wires to the 12-pin connector it had. I left all the little indicator light labels too as there really isn't room for much else.

Fast forward to today....it's time to reorient some of the sall gauges for better sighting. And make the indicator lights more useful. And make a new harness for the crappy wires it has. Speaker cord for wires?? Huh?? That will all get trashed and a new harness fabbed up.

There's no speedo cable in the car so the large speedo is just a dummy placeholder. And I have a tach on top of the dash so even the big tach in the center shown here isn't used. 408's don't let you look down at a tach if you've got the loud pedal mashed!! (Realistically I don't look at the top-of-dash tach either - I shift by the shift light.)

New 194 LED bulbs are ordered for the gauge lighting, a new harness will be built for the whole thing, and I'm going to add a coolant temp idiot light to remind me when it's time to switch on one of the electric fans. I'll keep the Line-Loc light and maybe the ignition light. I'll change up the colors to be more intuitive too.

The engine has been built and under wraps for 5 years (I know, I know :( ), but it's finally time to unwrap it and start bolting things on.

20240702_170754.jpg

I checked all the bottom end torque...everything was perfect.
20240702_172809.jpg

I got the oil pump and windage tray bolted in.
20240705_173936.jpg

I sandblasted the oil pan to prep for new paint. I will try to knock out a few minor dents before painting.

Maybe my wife and kids will stop making fun of me.

Door panels off, cleaning out and rinsing out seams.

Re-seal seams and lower inside door pan, with catylized paint products.

Preserve for the future. Such a clean body, want to keep it that way.

A real pleasure to work with. Ounce of prevention, worth a pound of cure.

Maybe they will. like my wife, but just this week after all the time I've put into my car over the last year my nephew comes over and tells me this, you're never going to finish your car. He's 9 so I didn't beat him up lol but I will remember that on his 18th birthday

Visited our favorite watering hole on Woodward Avenue for some dinner, parking lot BSing, then some laps. My buddy, Americo, snapped this pic of the Jaundiced GT

The engine was put back in the 70 over the weekend after being out for a rebuild over the last 2.5 years! One of my 20-year old kids under the car helping out.
This week started the process of bolting everything back together underneath.

Tonight was valve lash night for the avatar's 408. It hadn't been done in a tad over 2 years so time to get after it.

Took the RH valve cover off and had at it. Hmmm....no movement at all from where they were set in July 2022? Well - I did find one that was off by .001" but that may have been where I set it back then.

3rd time I've checked them and they seem to stay put. This is a Bullet SFT cam with profiles for the midsize valve lifters (ie. Ford size) so the cam is easier on the valve train but likely gives up some area under the curve (ie. hp). But I'm overall pleased with it and this is just another reason why!

p.s. some of you may like the spark plug access you can see here with these 1-3/4" Hooker Super Comp headers. The driver side has the same access too!

Changed the rear 14" ralleye wheels wheels with 215's with a new set of 15" x 7" ralleye wheels with Cooper 245's. Certainly toughens up the look! (Still need 15" trim rings)

Saving up for the fronts next but going to stick with 215's.

66fyssh,

Can I ask where did you get those 14" trim rings? It looks like they have a squared off shoulder which looks exactly what's on my 15" X 7" rears (purchased from Ken (aka 72Dart6pack here on FABO)):

The only information I have on my 15" trim rings is this:

Hey Dan,

The rings were on the car when I bought it 11 years ago. I'll have a look to see if I can find any markings/part numbers.

I'm searching for 15" trim rings myself.
