I have not found this number in any of my performance manuals. (MOPAR Engine books)

If it's just taking up space I can come get it. Lol.

Looks like one of the old billet cranks. Number close to that was a small block billet. Have you measured any bearing journals?

3.58 Stroke crank. You'll need to show us more pictures and measure the main bearing size to see if its for a 360. Any balancing slugs?

3.580 stroke
318/340 rods - mains
8 bolt flange
I was told this but I couldn’t find anything to match the number stamped on it to verify.
No mods and no weights NOS.
Thanks for the info.

Any chance you can post more pictures? Does it have a normal torque converter and flex plate style register on the rear?

Nice unit! 8 bolt flange is a forged unit.
I can’t find a listing in the last of the MP catalogs. There is a “978”, 3.58 stroke/360 main and a “979”, 3.79 stroke/360 main.
Both 8 bolt flange.

Sorry;
All my catalogues (even discontinued parts) and all my internet show nothing.

Closest I could find is P4452978 (billet 360 race) with 3.58” stroke and says the “actual main journal size is 2.8095-2.8105”. does not specify 6 or 8 bolt.

340 mains, 8 bolt, 3.58 stroke?

Nice crank but what the heck is it !?

Where did you get this rare mysterious piece!?

Same info I have that is what made me ask.

8 bolt flange and stock 6 hole flexplate for clarification, also drilled for pilot bushing. No mods as stated before and dirty rusty appearance on journals is a waxy, sticky protective coating.
As I said before thank you guys for the clarification info.
Research shows 340 + .040 overbore nets a 373.

I bought out a passed class car racers remaining parts and this was part of the purchase.

Pistons readily available for that combo! Hyper or forged.

372.61 rounded up for 373. A mere 10 cubes behind the overly touted 383 Chevy.

Give that bad boy a series set of heads now!

Thanks for adding the pictures. I would love to find one of those.

It is likely a circle track or sprint car piece. Strange that we cannot find more info. Sure would be nice to know the specifics, like grade of steel. Clearly it is billet, so should work well with anything you put it in.

The similar P4452978 # in my catalogue I have here shows the closest I could find but still not your crank.
You have narrowed it down enough it seems to know its a sweet piece.
I’m liking the 340 mains on yours.

I have the same book and saw the 978 crank but no 976 that is why I started this post. The two digit difference should have tipped me off but it would have been a guess.

I know this is gonna sound weird but 318 poly cranks were forged, had the 318/340 journal size and came with the hemi 8 bolt arrangement. We built some short stroke 301 cid LA small blocks back in the day for high winding circle track folks using the Poly 301 crank and a hemi flex plate.

Doesn’t sound weird
Sounds like racing.

I have only seen two types of Poly crank. 62 & later had the 6 bolt flange wit threaded holes.
Earlier cranks had 8 hole flanges, but the holes were drilled, not tapped.
