What Did A 'BO29' Look Like When You Picked It Up At The Factory.

plumcrazy706606 I was wondering the same thing having noticed Frank's name. I remember like it was yesterday when he got that car. I first saw it run at Georgetown (high 10s) but within a few weeks he had it in the 10:20s. Frank's cars were always immaculate, not a fingerprint or speck of dirt anywhere. At the track he was always so well prepared, and he was dressed like he was going to a party. Truly a class act. I saw Frank last year at the car show in Wasaga Beach. He has built sort of a "tribute car" of the Baracuda, but street legal of course. Had a nice conversation about "old times". It was great to see him again after all these years; he was always kind of a hero to me.

First batch of fiberglass fenders was blue. They had some problems with them. But I dont believe I have ever been told exactly what it was. I had suspected supply problems. The rest were supplied by another vendor and were black gelcoat.
Missing? I will guess marker lights? But I thought none of them had the holes for markers
in the front glass.

Awesome! yes
On the fenders, I believe they were done by another company. The hoods were missing also. Who was the first two to order there cars before the news letter?

Sox & Martin would of got the first car. They were the highly publicized dream team for Chrysler. Not sure if they got their other car at the same time.
If we were talking another racer they would have been factory sponsored.
Landy would be up their pretty high on the list but not sure if he recieved the second.
A lot of racers were factory sponsored to various degrees. Some for cars and parts where others bought their own car but were given support with info & parts.

How Much For A BO29 ?

OK,

The prices were all over the place.

1} The 'selected' Factory-backed Racers got their {primary} car for $1.00.

2} If they wanted a '2nd' Barracuda, they had to pay the 'Racer' discounted
price of $4200 if there was one available, or go through a Plymouth Dealership who
had placed an initial order.

3} The 'special' Racer Discount price for a BO29 was {$4200}, and you had to pick up the
car at the Hurst Facility, or the Plymouth U-Drive' lot.

4} Some Racers were set up with Regional Plymouth Dealer Associations, who
bought the BO29 for $4200 {Dealer Price}, and signed a 1-Year contract deal
with the Racer to drive it. At the end of the 1-Year Contract, the Racer was given
the 'right of first refusal' to negotiate a purchase deal on the BO29.

5} A few 'individual' Dealerships bought the BO29 outright for $4200, and then
had their own driver handle the driving chores.

6} A few 'individual' Dealerships bought the BO29 outright for $4200, and
hired 'Professional Drivers' to drive and promote the car. At the end of
1-Year contract, many of the Racers bought the car from the Dealership.

7} Several of the BO29 cars were sold for the retail price of {$5214},
which were purchased through a Dealership, and signed off by the
Plymouth Regional Director.

Note; Many of these BO29 cars were picked up at the Hurst Facility
or the Plymouth U-Drive lot.

8} A few Dealerships who had BO29 cars, held out for 'top dollar' from
the highest bidder, and received the List Price of $5700 for a Barracuda.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A} There were a 'few' exceptions to the 'Rule'

B} Bill Stiles of {York, Pennsylvania} got his car for $3700 - when it
was offered to him at a 'discounted price' by Dick Maxwell.

I guess Frank hasn't been able to sell his clone. His old bo29 came out of hibernation last year or earlier this year. Frank still has some stuff of interest for the car I understand. I looked for the car a bit and got tired of being sidetracked in the search. When I was looking, the price bouncing around was something around 100k. I hope the new owners bring it up to specs (without cutting it up) and run it as a piece of history. It should never be made into a SS car of today's age.

avid of the coming out in case anyone missed it.

$5214. I'll take one at that price!
Too late to order one?

Interesting to see the motor plates, passenger inner fender, mirror delete plate and Something looking like a VIN tag on the dash

plumcrazy704406 Wow that is amazing! So glad you posted that video. Incredible that the car is still intact after all these years, right down to the mechanical tach drive distributor Lol Like you, I hope the car is restored in it's original "as raced" configuration. These original cars are so rare now and truly are a historical artifact. Thanks again.

Victor,

The cars were shipped from the Hamtramck Plant to the
Hurst Performance Facility at;
1191 East Eleven Mile Road
Madison Heights, Michigan

It was a 'makeshift' assembly line type plant.

Despite what some have said, the Hurst Group did 'not' assemble the
426 Hemi Engines.

They were 'prepped' at the Chrysler Marine and Industrial Plant in
Marysville, Michigan.

And yes, several of the first BO29 had different Fiberglass Fenders. They
came from 'Anderson Industry', and there were imperfections in the
mold.

Where exactly was the Hurst Facility on 11 Mile in Madison Heights?

Is it true that every set of headers were damaged when the loading and unloading them on the transport car carriers? Also, was the Dana used, one from a 68 B-body or from a 65-66 B-body?

I thought there was a pic floating around of a entire car carrier loaded up with those, might have been Darts...

Old Man Mopar, I saw Carltons Wire car when it was in a warehouse in Lake Forest, CA. Was that yours? Sold the man an SS hemi water pump housing..
